    lag time on GPS

I have 3 Lowrance GPS/Depth finder como units - these are probably 7-10 years old - there is a substaintal lag time in response of these unit compared to "real" time. Are newer units quicker or real time response? Friend pointed out that automotive GPSs do not have lag time.

typical standard gps outputs 1hz better ones can do 5/10hz expensive stuff will do 100hz as used in car racing data loggers etc
Very hard to get the manufactures to even say if the output is 10hz, was the calculation 10 hz??
Your Lowrance will have a spec, I'll bet its 1hz like your phone

Good question. I am in the same situation, was thinking about getting a new standalone gps speedometer but wondering if it was gonna be just as slow to react as my old plotter.

if you want the chart to move not just read out speed, thats up to how fast the video can process in your plotter which has lots to do with zoom and detail showing etc.
Most modern plotters have moved to 10hx gps chipsets to help the issue.
    60mph is 88feet per second
