Do you know if 2.0 crank same? Looks like it is,and I wanna say I read they r same.. if we can swap front halves on 2.0 to 2.4 then all should interchange I'm thinking. Reason being ,I have a good 2.0 crank, and won t slow this process down or cost any extra. Thanks

Yes. I think I have a few good ones if you don’t have one already. A 260 small bearing top cap (has a bearing retainer plate) will work with the 2.0 non-oiler crank...

I have come across a 98 2.5 200 mariner. It's a xl motor which I believe is a 25 In mid. Compression is good dnt know bout leak down. If it checks out good and since I'm only gonna use powerhead what should I offer guy?? I'd rather go to 2.5 than rebuild the 2.4 I believe. I'm thinking I can get it bout same price as my rebuild. Thanks for any info guys

If it's a small light boat, I'd stick with your 2.4 and let James do his magic. Bet he has a crank too.

I never thought anyone would tell me stick wit 2.4 over 2.5 ? It's a 15ft boat and hull 850ish. Figured it b little more weight but I figure if be ahead of the game with 2.5. I'm just not a efi fan because I haven't messed with em much and parts more expensive. That's what's got me considering stayin wit 2.4. Keep it simple kinda thang

The stock used 2.5 is an unknown motor to you, has more potential, and grunt.
But, on a small light boat with James Perry doing his magic on your 2.4 you'd have a fresh rebuild and it will out run the stock 2.5 hands down on a a light fast hull. jmo...

I'm gonna have to go get this 2.5. I got motor and all at a very gud price. I plan on doing leak down also. It's all original motor as come from factory. 2300. I just can't pass it up. I'll b selling mid section and stock lower, to offset sum of cost. It's gonna b cheapest way out at moment, I'm still gonna send 2.4 to James. Guy repowered with a 4 stroke

I'm taking a road trip early in morn to check this one out. Can you guys help me as to what to look for in these motors ? Is there a certain carb that's better than others ,what model carbs and better ones of those models things like that? Motor looks stock I believe it still has all black boxes and things that need b removed. Thanks for any info. If all checks out it will be my 1st 2.5Click image for larger version.
