Prop help

I have a 19’6 Champion bass 1990 it runs a 1996 Mariner Magnum 175 hp I run a Tempist 25 on it max rpm before rebuilding the motor was 5200 rpm, @ 52 mph I new I was going to rebuild motor so I chose to stick with it. After full motor rebuilt it jumps up on pad better than ever fully loaded live wells in all but still only gets 5200 rpm @ 52 mph Jack plate is set at 2 5/8” center of prop to bottom of pad. Before buying a 24 pich I have had people tell me to change to a Furry that it runs great with that year Mariner. Has anyone made this change to there boat.

Have not had the same boat, but have a 20' flats that is similar. I have found that 3 blades will sometimes run better than 4 blades on some smaller motors. Probably due to less blade drag. A tempest is a good bow lifter, better than a trophy by far. A fury is similar to a tempest, so should run well also. Keep in mind that 1mph per 1rpm is not that bad for the combo that you have. Your tach may be haywire too. Also the motor will be happier at 5600 loaded. May not be faster though. Mercs don't like to be lugged.

A shorter pitch prop should get your rpms up at top speed. If your slip % comes down you may not loose any top speed but will notice an improvement everywhere else. Hole shot and midrange punch will improve. I would find a 22 to try before dropping coin to go from 25 to 24. A better prop design (for the boat) will give an improvement in the same pitch range though.

I had an old 18’ Champion with a 150 but I’m not sure of the prop pitch, prop wasn’t marked other than “predator” I think. Awesome prop on my Varmint!

Way too much prop......even for a 200hp......
21 or 22 @6000 or 6200 is your target.
That 2.5 175 should turn 6200 all day no question.
