Chris Carson Reeds, 2 Stroke Install

Motor- Yamaha 40/50 HP two stroke
    Boat - 16 FT Alumaweld

I just got some Chris Carson Reeds to replace stock reeds in my boat.
I am somewhat savy with my motor. Have done typical stuff such as carbs, water pump etc.
Is all there is to it is to remove the manifold and gaskets behind carbs, remove reed valves, replace reeds and reassemble? Any tricks or pointers?

Also, changed jets in my motor. 40/50 HP have identical carburetors(different part numbers, same repair kits/carbs). Jet replacement didn’t seem to give it that much HP increase.

any pointers on increasing Hp would be much appreciated. (Exhaust, etc)

Check the reed cages and make sure there are no burrs. It’s a good idea to lap them before you install the new reeds. Some 600 or 800 grit on a piece of glass with some kero or other lube will work fine. Just to level the surface. Make sure the reeds lay down flat and seal well! Locktite on the screws is a good idea too (blue stuff should be ok). Do a search on here for more details if necessary, it has been gone into in much greater detail before.

Maybe check timing specs on the 40 vs 50. That may be different too!

Reeds, by any other name. Will not increase HP.

I think nitro rat is right. Timing and jet might be the only difference between the two. Check the part numbers on the exhaust tuners but I think they're the same.
