    Mini Van for Towing

Anybody tow using a mini van?

    I'm looking at a 2017 Toyota Sienna which has a 3,500 pound tow rating. Engine has 296 HP / 263 lb-ft torque.

My Allison bass boat total weight is probably 2,700 pounds or so by rough estimate.

I'm looking at other tow vehicle options vs the traditional pick up truck.

Had a 1988 3.0 Dodge Caravan and a 1996 3.8 Caravan I towed a 2750 pound 180 Sea Ray outboard with. I needed to watch the road ahead and it helped to get a run at the long grades on the hiway going to Cumberland Lake. The ramp we go to is a bitch because it starts steep and doesn't end till all the way up. Just put in low and punch it. These were 6 cylinder, front wheel drive and factory rated to tow the load, just remember, how much will everything weigh

Should be fine. I towed my Allison XB2003 with a glorified Camry(ES300) for years. Of course I had electric brakes on the trailer (Prodigy controller). Doesn't matter if you can pull it, only matters if you can stop it and it won't steer the tow rig.

Saw a Dodge caravan with a 4.0l badge the other day, about time. I think it's years old but still

Thanks for the replies. I'm focusing on a used 2017 Toyota van as it has the most HP ratting compared to others and has a 3500 tow ratting. Not in a real rush to buy anything just yet. I currently tow my Allison XB2003 with a 2002 Chevy 2500 HD Diesel. It's getting old and I want to retire it for local farm chores only.

Just looking for other tow options vs buying a newer HD truck which is huge money. My trailer has surge breaks, I'm a big fan of trailer brakes, I keep them in good operating condition.

I had an Allison XB2002 at one time. Lighter than the 2003. I towed it with a 99 Dodge Caravan with the 3.8. Did just fine.

The big hills around Cumberland sound familiar. I did lots of shore camping there prior to the lake drain. I now prefer primitive camping at Dale Hollow.

Before I became retarded I had my own auto repair shop, worked mainly on Toyota's. They would be my first choice. I am a big fan of electric brakes, in fact I just converted my Champion trailer over to electric from hyd. I would rather have a XB2002 then the XB2003.
