225 Optimax Shaft Length Conversion Cost

I’m trying to determine Ball Park cost to go from XXL to L for my Optimax, assuming fair price on used parts, machining, etc. Any ideas? Thanks.

can, driveshaft replaced or shortened, shift shaft replaced or shortened, water tube replaced or shortened, power head gasket, labor if you cant do it your self. Gotta put a new or used price to everything. Might be able to find a can for around $400, probably most expensive part. If you have to have someone replace shaft thats the other hit the rest is fairly inexpensive unless of course the power head doesnt want to cooperate

Please keep track of what you do and buy. I'm going to do the same thing this summer.

    Thanks

There are a couple guys on here that can cut and respline the shaft while its still in the case. HStream1 and Chris Carson are two off the top of my head and they are both vendors. Possibly someone closer to you too cause shipping is another expense.

Thanks for your reply. Can shopping next. What’s potential issue separating powerhead from can? What’s required when reinstalling drive shaft?

    ill post progress here.

I switched an EFI XL to a L. It was fairly simple. Like the others said. The midsection is gonna be the most expensive. I found one on Ebay when i did it. It cost me about 650$ but had the trim and exhaust housing with it. No tubes to have to cut or anything. The shaft is probably in 2 different pieces. Its gotta coupler connecting the two. You can order the shaft online and is prob cheaper than getting yours re-splined. Keep your mid and sell it. Can get some of the money back. Just make sure the bolts on the mid arent rusted up bad when you buy one.

$650 for an opti 20" can? You were blessed. I was happy to pay $1200 for mine. But it did come with a tuner. Better figure about 1k for a used 20" can. Just in case you don't know there are new style and old style cans for the 3 liter. The old style ones are easy to find and cheap but a nice newer style is expensive snd hard to find.

Old style ones were prone to cracking in the exhaust too..........

I just found this nice deal that might solve all your problems.https://detroit.craigslist.org/okl/b...544378100.html

Just swap out powerheads and sell your 25" as complete running motor.
Fyi no one buys 25" midsection I'm giving one away n still they don't want it
