Water pump impeller
Is it wise to replace impeller every year after long winter storage. Do you have to replace housing and all gaskets and wear plate also?

What motor? On 3 liter you dont have to change housing unless damaged. We do cooling service on customers boats every 3 years. On my own boat I change impeller every year. JMO

260 efi offshore. Guess it’s best to take a look at housing and change impeller since it’s been same position for 8 months

My boat is not stored in a climate controlled area so I pull my lower every fall before the first freeze. Since I have it off I usually pressure test, change the oil, and replace the impeller. This year I think I’ll change the whole pump since I know it’s been 3 or 4 years since the last time event though it still looks good!

Are those two impellers interchangable on the standard 2.5 lower units? I see the 89984 listed as the part for the standard lower unit.
Any idea what increases the service life of the 43026 impeller?
Edit comparing the pictures looks like the impellers are not interchangeable. Looks like the 43026 is for the 3 liter models and reportedly lasts much longer.
After getting impeller pieces jammed in my 2.5 once It's back to changing the 89984 impeller every season.Last edited by Fishinmymission; 03-28-2018 at 08:54 AM.

The 47-89984T has the brass sleeve that’s stronger and holds up under high RPM’s ! I wouldn’t trust any other . It is what it came with from the factory .

The most common failure on most is that the impeller will become 'set' after sitting.
Speed cost money. How fast you wanna go?
I have done so much with so little for so long, I can now do the impossible with nothing!

Not much of a merc dealer if they have to order an 84 impeller.
