Need help from Lower Unit experts
I just bought the 2014 300 Opti from Josh at Rock River Marina. It's a 25". I want to make it a 30".
I also bought a "kit" from a THT member that is supposed to make a 25 into a 30. I expected to get a Bay Manufacturing extension kit. What I got was misc parts, not a kit, apparently to disassemble the 25 and convert it to a 30. I DO NOT WANT TO OPEN THE L/U.
My questions are these:
How much of what I bought can I use? I know the 5" casting for sure.
How about the shift shaft? Do you have to open the l/u to change this out? It seems like the 90 degree bend might be the top? If so, how difficult is it to change?
Will the water pick up tube work?
I think I need this:
1) A 5" drive shaft extension for sure.
2) Maybe a 5" shift shaft extension.
3) Maybe a 5" water pick up tube.
All of these pieces are available from Bay ala carte.
Am I missing anything?
Thank you in advance!

sell all that crap someone sold you and just call BAY and buy a full kit thats all designed to work together otherwise your gonna be pulling your powerhead to swap shift shaft along with an expensive powerhead gasket and you will be rebuilding your lower unit to accomodate the 30 inch shaft he gave you....by the time your done with labor and parts your gonna way exceed the cost of a new Bay kit....

I appreciate the advice but the casting and studs make up half of the kit price. I'm trying to determine what I need to complete the extension kit.
So based on what you've said the 5" shift shaft extension for under $100 is the way to go.

have you priced the parts ALA CARTE from baymfg? have you priced having your drive shaft swapped over? have you priced a power head gasket to swap the shift rod?

Would have saved a lot of b/s if you bought a 30 in motor instead ? Just saying.

I've been looking for a 300 / 30" since November without luck. I had to come up with some options.
Thanks
