P1 Super Stock or P1SS... Too bad they went for the ugliest and slowest of boats. Who wants to see that? Not many!

I read they have new light weight boats , not sure why you would want to knock one of the very few things going on in small boat racing
I don't know anything about this class or it's history , but since all these races are in Florida I'm going to check a few out .

Had a friend race one last year, and they fought with it for a few races and finally gave up. They are not the best handling, but they are fun to watch since they usually run extremely tight together. This year might be a little more interesting as I remember reading it was several hundred pounds from the previous boats, which should speed them up. Previous model with the Mercury 300 would run 70-72 mph.

Yeah those steps don't help handling for sure , look cool on trailer thou.
What I would like to see is a class where boat manufacturers would be in competition , 300hp motors.
That would get the blood flowing like the old MVP days, let's say 24 ft minimum.
Then you would have innovation , light weight FAST, I myself believe less is more as in less rules more fun.
I know I'm a dreamer...
Back when they started Superstock racing for MVP type boats I could not get past the 150hp rule and safety
capsules , mostly the 150hp , I have not run a 150 since 1977.We have invented the world; WE see

I am not bad mouthing the people that run the boats, just the boats. Imagine a BIG, Heavy and UGLY 28' boat with only a 250hp outboard... Later they upgraded to 300 and as I just read - the hull for handling. Just before they chose this type of boat for the series I saw the alternatives and they looked nicer and were probably better handling and possibly faster. They picked the boat that looks like something you buy in a souvenir shop in Amsterdam...
I did not know you intended on giving it a go, please do and report here! I just thought that the boats could look and perform better.Last edited by aeneas; 03-24-2018 at 11:57 AM.

I'm not intending on getting involved , but if a class was to come along like I stated above , I would stretch and redesign what I have to fit the rules .

Missed out on it last year in Islamorada. Not on the schedule this year. Would have liked to watch from the sandbar.

The majority of the boats in the class are leased for the season, and are not actually owned by the teams. P-1 essentially controls everything, which definitely helps on the tech side, and keeping the deeper pockets from cheating. Not saying it doesn't happen, just makes it much more difficult. All of the boats are setup identical (same prop, setback, engine, etc), and I know last year, they weren't even allowed to move the jackplate up or down. At each race, they have a wall of props and a box of ECU's. You draw a number and take your pick of each.
