    Stator differances

I have a bridgeport i built and broke in last year and have a issue with the motor not reving past 7k rpm and im wondering if it is the stator. Could someone please tell me the difference between the 16 amp racing stator vs the standard 16 amp.

As far as I know there are 16 amp stators and 40 amp stators. I didnt know there was a standard 16 amp and a high perf 16 amp stator. I do know that if you've had a stator go bad and replaced it with new that it usually will break down the switch boxes and that they will soon be bad also and that anytime you change the stator you should replace the switch boxes as well. Ive also had rectifier issues that would keep the rpm down. Are your gauges doing anything weird when running up in the rpm like jumping around etc? Is your 16 amp stator red? Also is your BP efi or carb?

Usually when you stator goes it wont get up on plain but will idle and run fine on the hose or in the water in nuetral.

Heres a link to a good read with a lot of great info on stators

Stator is black and im using a green flexplate flywheel. Gauges are acting normal. This is a carbed Bridgeport with a 5 pedal front. Compression was at 132-135 last year before i put it up for the winter. Prop pitch didnt make a differance either. Went from a 26 to a 24

The V6 was 9 amp from introduction to sometime in the early 80’s. 81-82ish. Can use the 9 amp stuff with 16 amp flywheel, usually just ditch the regulator. You can run the 16 amp stator with 9 amp flywheel, add regulator.

I bought this ignition used off of a running motor. Is it even possible to put a 9 amp stator under a 16 amp flywheel?

No worries! You can definitely put a 9 amp stator under a 16 amp flywheel and it will work too, but the 16 amp regulator will need to be removed.

Not sure what issues might arise if the regulator was left in place...
