Sorry, don't do glass/paint work any more. Retired from it after 30+ yrs. There are couple of guys on here in your area that may be able to steer you to a good place to do it if you decide not to tackle it. Congrats on the baby coming in July....

Have a question about Expanding foam, for example if filled the voids under the floor with expanding foam and made two small boxes in the back corners of the boat would this provide more boyancy? if I go with a slightly heavier 4 stoke like the formula race 60 will the boat sit higher up in the water? does it work that way?

No. Foam only helps float a boat that's sunk or sinking by displacing water inside the hull. A intact boat is already displacing that water on the outside of the hull. The foam only adds weight.

Makes perfect sense, are most people running no foam at all?

Empty air chambers to prevent complete sinking are the best way to do it. Complete under floor area sealed with removable plugs is one way. Boxes made from thin glass with a drain hole that can be plugged to seal it watertight. (transom corners.) All opened to allow air circulation when boat is off the water. Styrofoam blocks under deck glued in place with epoxy adhesive is another. Do not use foam below the floors, it will absorb water.

ID:	406088In Alaska, we race these boats with 50hp 2-strokes, but they recently changed the rules to allow for 60hp 4-strokes. We achieve a top speed of 74 with a crew of three as pictured, 30 gallons of fuel, and required equipment. The main race is called the Yukon 800. Fairbanks to Galena the first day which is 400 miles, then return to Fairbanks the next day at 6am. A lot of captains are wondering how the Formularace would do on these types of boats and if they would be competitive. A documentary called Legends of the Yukon is available for purchase or rent-streaming at www.akraceproductions.com

If it's anything like all the other 4 strokes, you will be able to lighten load by not having to carry as much fuel.
