When it comes to setting up an activator be it right or wrong keith was the man..... he spent more time setting up and trying different combos than 10 people could!
be it set back, notch/no notch, pad width, tank size and position forward/aft, moving weight around the cockpit and 100,s of different props

as for the yellow boat when Greg owned keith went with him a bunch of times and just could get it right, he though the balance was off and the boat was heavy

I went over alot of different things on that hopping 22 including pulling it off the trailer and checking the whole bottom for soft spots that could be power hooking and found nothing....i tried a 25 inch mid setti g the motor deeper i tried jacking the motor way high, stock cases sportys, coned cases, left hand case and props....i moved weight all over the place....up own fore and aft....full fuel empty fuel.....the only thing that stopped the hop was a signifigant amount of lead just fwd of the tank in the belly of the boat....at the point where the boat was a dream to drive at 40 to 60 mph with no hop the top speed was in the low 80s....and even then it required more driving and was alot more sensitive than it shoukd have been...when i spoke to mark about it his thoughts were to pull the tank and liner out of the boat and place some weight along the keel keeping it low in the boat would help...personally i think a 200 woulda veen fine on the boat but the 3.0 liters were not happy on it....it had a 250xs and then a brand new 300xs when i was playing with it.....

That is not a Mark boat.
Hoops boat I pictured up above is a mark boat, no hop.

wavetowave- is Mark restoring this your boat?
Hey Rob, thanks. Great work on that Yellow one, looks amazing. You're right about the tank too, it was shoe horned in there and the floor height is very shallow in these. The tank is too big to me, and especially with efficiency of the the new engines, overkill.

I would love to have taken a look at the hoppy one, just to see, seems so strange.

And Yes, the boat is at Mark's shop. I do all the work and he drinks coffee and yells at me. lol.

Thanks for the support! That's a good idea. I probably will put some MSRP prices on some of the products, to provide details. We will try and offer a few tips to save on some things too. Labor will be tricky but hopefully we can provide some idea of what it takes.

As far as the Activator that had the hop did the bottom have a hook or rocker? The boat could have been pulled from the mold too soon or the structure could have been built in the boat while out of the mold.
    The reasons are numerous.
I do remember back in the early 2000s there was a 21 superboat with similar issues I do not know what was done to fix the problem, I did hear it could have been replaced to avoid a lawsuit.
A friend in the buisness was asked to work on a 24 foot center console that handled poorly. The owner had some day laborer (fiberglass specialist) replace the floor and stringers in boat.
The boat would bow steer and nearly take water over the bow, when it was checked out there was a 10 foot long hook in the bottom. The internal repairs were done while the boat was on blocks. Long story short the boat was flipped over and the hook was filled in and the problem was fixed.

Yes that was part of the problem...thats why the weight just fwd of the front tank bulkhead helped the hop....problem was the boat was missing 8 to10mph after enough weight was in there....

There was ZERO hook or rocker....i spent hours under the boat with an 8ft straightedge and a bottle jack with the boat off the trailer looking for that as well as potential power hook areas and the bottom was perfect....

I have seen a couple of superboats years back that would hook under power and cause a hop...gene barabashes boat was one of them....thats how he ended up with his 24 and john then resold the power hooking 21...

hoppity was not built by Mark, but I do believe mark blueprinted the bottom and that is why the bottom is painted white. I do not know if it made a difference back then or how off it was. All I know is when C bought the boat (running with a 250) he was not aware the boat had an issue he didnt even take it for a ride, at least when he sold it he disclosed it.

W2W- you dont HAVE to fill the tank, but if you need more fuel you have cant fit it in. Vnemous knows all about that his boat was originally being set up as an all out bragging rights top end boat and we calculated a 40 gallon tank which is really 30's usable, you run through that pretty quick when you are on the stick. Let Mark drink the coffee and yell at you he knows the boat better then anyone. See if he still has the windscreen mold it gives the boat a nice look
