    Cle/Sporty

I have a CLE and a Sporty looking to go 15" mid will a 15" Merc shaft fit both or are they specific to each case? I have read about double bearing shafts and assume that is for the stronger sporty. If they are different can someone supply me with part #'s. I did also read about a guy in Michigan that cuts and re-splines drive shafts and that may be the way to go here. The answer to this will decide what way I will go with the build

    Thanks

dual bearing on a sporty is there to keep the drive shaft from jumping up and down when lower is throttled or leaves water mainly in off shore racing, it has .001 max clearance when setting it up . there are spacers around that Merc used on the cle case and torqmaster cases that are only single bearing drive shaft but same part number as sporty just eliminates lower small bearing i never put them back in the sporty its proven to be a good case with out it in just weekend boater stuff

The best option is to buy a 15” shaft from Sanderson marine for the sporty

he cuts down a 3l shaft and splines it for a 2.5, can get one of those much cheaper than a merc 15” shaft and they are very strong.

I’ve been runnng one for three seasons now

    lol I'd be scared to see merc's price on a 15" shaft,they want $100 for a stock 3l 20",just ordered one.
