Removing driveshaft out of inline six gear case

Do I need special tools to remove the driveshaft and nut? Left or right threads on nut?

Take pinion nut off. Put driveshaft in good vise after water pump is removed. Take long 2x8 or bigger lumber and strike the case off. It will separate. Some can be very tight.
