Guys: There is a start-up owners group hosted on

Bob Switzer is a member and contributes quite often and answers questions. What follows is an
excerpt from one of his posts regarding them setting up a web page for Switzer Craft..

the site He hopes to make it user friendly to include the following:
1.The history of Switzer Craft from 1946 until 1982 when the Switzer brothers retired, Also, photos of yours boats, comments re your Switzer
experiences, a chat room for keeping in touch with each other, a swap shop to offer marine products for sale and a section to list items you are

That looks just like my boat but mine has a back seat and 2 front seats. Your boat must have been the one out west in Idaho or ? Did you ever make a pass with the T-1 on it? I mentioned to Bob Switzer last year ,at the Mt. Dora show, that mine had aluminum angle rails on each side of the pad. He said they were actually installed at the factory for better directional stability. With a true tunnel or Mod VP bottom and that deck you could sell a bunch of them today,like AristoCraft and Raveau.

The other Switzer, courtesy of Jeff. Engine is a 1962 75.2 hp McCulloch Custom (with 1.1:1 gearshift gear case) as mentioned on the thread with Dick Davis's Scot hydro.

DO YOU KNOW WHERE THIS YELLOW SWITZER IS NOW? THIS RIG WAS OWNED BY ONE OF OUR FL CHAPTER MEMBERS WHO DIED A COUPLE YEARS AGO AND SOME OF OUR OTHER MEMBERS HAVE ASKED ME WHERE IT WENT BUT I DON'T KNOW.

Louis, the boat I had was the one from Idaho. I bought it from the original owner. It did have the alum. angles on the bottom, but I assumed he'd installed em. I did run it a time or two with the Twister. I'll look for some more pictures, but I'm 99% sure that mine had a back seat also. It had registration stickers on it from the early 70's that looked brand new and a neat looking picture of a witch painted on the sides and the name "Wicked Witch". It was in absolute flawless condition and when the previous owner said it probably had less than 10 hrs, his daughter made the comment that it was probably less than 5. I really should've kept it.

In the late60's Mercury kept a Shooting Star at Oshkosh boat house and plant 38 for comparison runs on props and motors. Very consistent and excellent performing calm water, straight run boat.

Dealer friend of mine here in Minnesota had one with 1100 SS on it. Speed low 70's. Ran the rig in last marathan (believe 6 hour) on Winnebago out of Fond du lac in "66 or '67. Dead calm day--perfect for Shooting Star. Set marathan record for I believe U class that was still good until a few years ago (maybe is still good for all I know).

Sam, yaeh that's the boat I was talking about. Thanks for the picture, the description of the bottom. I had one of those old carlson's and form the picture of the red boat I see what you mean about rounded. Raceman, I have an old glass washboard, and have seen the old metal one's. So, needless to say that description of the ride pretty well sums up the ride quality. I'll put those thought of having one to rest.

Jeff's boat went up in the North East area somewhere, seems like Maine or MD. That picture is 1 I took a few years ago, about a year before Jeff passed. I was told the motor came off and something a little more original (and a lot less fun likely). Seems like I saw a picture of it in a ACBS show. Gary MacNorius would have all of the details. I sure he sold it for the estate.

OK, I saw the boat last summer here in MD. It now has a Mark55 on it. Looks a bit more plain now.

I recently bought a Star from a collector in Chicago,1967model that we are fitting with a 1967 1100 SS ,Quincy stacks and ssm. It it true about the turning and the ride but in dead calm water there is not much out there with equal weight and power that can run with a Star,even 35 years later. I may need a year to get this one wet but it will be a cool ride once I finish it. I'm glad I didn't know Raceman's blue one was for sale, I would have re-mortgaged my house for that perfect one.Call me nostalgic but Bob and Dave Switzer are still the designers I look up to,the Wing will never be equalled IMHO,wish I could find one.
