    Switzer Shooting Star

I am sure a few of you have seen this on fiberglassics. I emailed the guy and told him to post it over here, guess he didn't want to.
It is for sale in NH with a healthy price tag, but the boat looks simply amazing.

theres a build up on one, on the home page of this site. Blue and White with a 1500xs. click on the picture and look at the photos that accompany the buildup. Then click on the last photo, it's in the water with a yellow and white boat. what is that, it's one bad ass lookin' boat. Anybody know? (I mean the yellow and white boat)

Yes, the yellow boat is also a Switzer. I believe it is the "Bullet" or "Baby Bullet" model.

There were also racing versions of the Bullet and Baby Bullet that were a little different.

The old Shooting Stars are neat to look at, but miserable rides. I sold what was probably the nicest original on the planet because I hated the way it rode.

The black and white Switzer on the home page with the 1500XS had some kind of V Bottom spliced on the bottom (HydroStream??) and has the looks and the better ride.

what's miserable about them. short, flatbottom, or something else? never seen one underneath.I thought something like that would be cool to cruise the lake in. the one on the homepage is cool, but that yellow and white one is cool enough to just sit in the garage and look at.

They are flat at the back and a sort of semi-tunnel semi-rounded catamran at the front. A Carlson without the sharp sponson type edge on the inside, if you follow that.

Could be, Jim. I'd say the best person to ask would be Mr. Switzer.

Heath, a lotta people don't know what a washboard is, but I can remember seein' a few of em around in some real old rural hardware stores when I was a kid. It's a piece of metal in a wooden frame and it looks like the center part of an accordian, with the idea being to drag clothes being hand washed back and forth across the ridges. If you can imagine somebody grabbing you by your ankles and draggin' your ass across one, that's what riding in a Shooting Star is like. Also, when trying to turn the damn thing, the motor turns and the boat goes sideways, but it keeps going straight, kinda like a crab instead of turning.

    shooting star

If anyone needs a Switzer Shooting Star I have a very nice totally original 1972 4 passenger with original Merc 140 and 2 blade 28 stainless. Its metal flake blue with black seats on a new trailer with custom cover. Looks just like the red one in the photo. Drive it anywhere anytime, never raced, for $7000. No photos till monday, I am gone for the weekend. Shooting Stars may not be the best ride in town but they are the best looking.

Louis, here's a picture of the one I had. It was absolutely brand new. The original owner bought it new and tried to run it several times with less than satisfactory results. He then stored it inside under a cover for over 25 years. When I bought it you couldn't tell that it had ever been wet and the interior and guages were just as nice. The Twister, which I kept is as new also and doesn't even have fluid stains on the silver paint on the powerhead and even the stickers are perfect and not faded. I probably should've kept it for a nostalgia piece. The person who bought it is a collector in Ill. and he said he was gonna build a dedicated room for it for display.
