'93 135 Merc charging/ignition into '89 150 Questions
I got lucky at the scrapyard last weekend and got a running engine. I'd got it for the L/U and was real surprised when it started
The trim pump is shot and the prop is bent which was probably why it was there. The charging system on my 150 has that problematic water cooled rectifier. I cant bring myself to drop $400- $700 for something that could pop if I look at it wrong. The used one on it now was $200 and it works when it wants to. The 135 has a good working dual rectifier set up.
My questions are:
Can the flywheels interchange? The 135 is cast iron. If so,
Is there any difference as far as ignition between triggers stators and flywheels?
Whats the best way to plug the hole in the cover? Looks like I have to keep the old one since the bolt patterns are different.

There are others better qualified than me to say what will and won't swap around. Done my share of bucket builds in the past with few issues. If you keep the stator and trigger with the flywheel, you should be good to go. jmo... IIRC there are some clearance issues between different electrics and flywheels.

I was in almost the same situation. My stator and regulator went out. I bought a new CDI 40A stator and 2 - 20A regulators and left the old water cooled in place. I found a mid 90's bracket and mounted the 2 20A regulator ($20 on Amazon)to that. It is by no means the prettiest, but it works great and I saved about $400.

Hey thanks again for the help W2F, still get a grin off that avatar. Panic button, I think that might be the way to go. I had thought about making some kind of cover plate out of stainless but that looks like a whole lot less hassle.
