    Mercury 2717-827352 piston/rod help

I have a set of mercury racing single ring pistons pn.2717-827352 and a set of 260 top guided rods. The rod small end fits into the piston with a few thou clearance.
I have been told that I need to run spacer rings between the piston and the rod?

You do need a spacer on each side of rod to contain wrist pin bearings. What is the rod #.

5250 are bottom guided rods. I am reaching back in my memory, which is a scary thought, and the 5250 is a .81 thick rod and your top guided rods are exactly .100 smaller. Hopefully someone that knows for sure will answer soon.

I have never heard of a 5250 rod being called "top guided". I know the early 260s had the big rod and with Mahle pistons used the .119 washers as opposed to the normal top guided .048 washer. I thought all .81 rods were bottom guided and all top guided rods were .71. If I am wrong I apologize for pointing you in the wrong direction.
