Checkmate prop
Looking to get a bit more from my current setup, 2012 Checkmate brx 2000/ verado 200 4 cylnder. Runs 64 gps with a stock 25 tempest, about 63 with a 23 tempest. Right around 6400 rpms with each. Little to no chinewalk, and prop to pad doesnt make any huge difference. Feels like the boat isnt lifting enough. Has a 6 inch hyd plate on it now. Should i have one of my props worked for this combo? Also who is the checkmate prop "guru"? I also have a 27 t1 that could be repaired. It is larger in diameter than tbe tempest, maybe with the verados slightly larger gearcase, this would be better? Also tried a 26 ish trophy with very high slip numbers...thanks in advance
Fwiw i talked to checkmate, they say thier chart says a 25 tempest, buy also said not many of this combo were sold.Last edited by JasonRS; 02-21-2018 at 11:21 AM. Reason: Added info

I have always had the best performance with trophy props. They should not slip much unless you are mounted too high or are over trimmed. Your boat will not chinewalk at those speeds. The trophy will have good bow lift also.

Setback makes a big difference. 12" - 16" You can also get a bigger motor!

Wow, 30 mph would be great, but right now an engine isnt in the budget, as bad as i wish it were! Boat is rated for a 250 and i really want to have whipple re flash the vrod to a 225,but im waiting till platinum runs out next year.
I was wondering about setback, is there anything needed structurally for the hull if i were to add setback to say 12-14"?
Thanks guys, much appreciated

I think that boat/motor is a pretty cool, reliable, and efficient combo that should break 70 with the right setup. If you don't already have 12" of setback, I'd start there. I don't think the hull has to be modified to do that, but make sure the bolts are sealed up good. For the prop, I couldn't find a faster prop than the Yamaha t1 on my old checkmate pulsare 2100br. I tried a long list of props, including tempest+, txp ot4, txp 3 blade, hydromotive quad 4 xob, high 5, etc and the t1 was the fastest.

Thanks, we kinda thought the same thing, when easy on the throttle, it really sips the fuel. If i can touch 70, i would be super happy! Cmon summer time!!

Talked with Checkmate, they said no problem going to 12 inches of setback. Got a bobs bracket on the way!

My old C-Mate Pulse 210 open bow ran OMC motors and seemed to like the old Raker 1 props. I believe the 1992 vintage hull may have run a slightly narrower pad than the later models- if I recall the pad was 7.5 inch wide. With a 225 Evinrude Vindicator- which I suspect was rated a bit low at 225- and a worked 24 Raker 1 I managed to squeeze out 72-73 mph with a light load. I had sanded the pad a bit at the transom to get a sharper edge than the factory had. I ran with no set-back plate.
