1960 Evinrude Starflite Too record run
I was watching the video below on the 1960 Starflite Too record run, and they stated that the engine was turning only 4900 RPM for its run over 114 MPH. That really caught my attention. Was this indeed the case? If so, I would be very curious to know the details about the lower unit and propeller used.

Hubbell overdrive lower unit jacked up the propshaft rpm and it used what we now think of as pretty normal 2 blade cleaver
A Hubbell lower unit very close to the one used on Starflite Too sold on eBay just yesterday.
4900 rpm is the reason those pipes are so long ... Hubbell made the filler block mounting adapter and pipes too.
I missed buying one of the V-4 Hubbell filler blocks on eBay about 15 years ago - I know where there is a set of those so so long pipes sitting on a shelf.

That's really impressive. Thank you for explaining that. I would definitely like a closer look at that setup. Would have been incredibly cool if you had that block. Talk about a piece of history. That kind of speed from (what they said) was a mostly-stock V4 is extraordinary, even today.

Starflite IV went on to set a world record and unfortunately a tragic ending for The Phantom well before I was even a thought to my parents
