Trim and temp gauges on 2002 200XS wihout Smartcraft gauge
I rigged an 02 200 XS on an older hull. The engine has a Smartcraft plug harness I believe. I'm trying to run my regular gauges off the engine (no Smartcraft gauge). Any idea where / how I can tap into the temp and trim wire feed?
I just have the regular Mercury round plug plugged into my engine. I think the hull has the trim gauge and temp gauge wired separate from the plug. I can find the wire on the boat, but no idea where to connect on the engine if possible. I'd really like to have the trim gauge work and temp would be good also. I have water pressure so at least something for cooling system.
Thanks for any guidance.

I think you should be able to find the brn/wht (trim sender) and the tan (temp) in the cable (with round plug) at the boat end of the cable (as opposed to the motor end). You could always cut into it to get to necessary wires or where they dead end in the control box. On many the trim sender wire sticks out of the round plug at the motor.

Correct on tan wire for temp gauge. I have not had any luck getting trim gauge to work on xs motors. my oldest is 2007 and has digital trim sensor. analog sensor does not fit the xs trim clamp. i have not had any luck wiring in a digital to analog converter box either. i ended up going to stainless marine trim setup.

So you're saying the round plug on the engine end should have trim and temp wires in it so I need to integrate the wires from the boat end into the round plug from the boat end?
Re: the digital vs analog trim sender that's a whole nother issue. Anybody else confirm that's a problem that will be hard to get around? Thanks for the info.

I have had this problem before. my experience is. with an AGI installed temp. will not work at all. it can actually send fault to ECM & limit power, & send horn sounding. trim will work but it reacts slow. merc. tech. told me they never figured a way to make it work.

Your best bet for this motor, if you want dedicated temp. gauge. Is get a smart tach., then install link gauges.

Billybob, are you talking about something like this? https://www.accuratetechnologies.com/TestCell/SmartTach
Then you can run a gauge from that?
If I'm going to go that far, I may as well get the actual smartcraft gauge.

Wouldn't that include temp, trim and everything else?

Yes you have all that info. on smarttach. but if you want dedicated temp. gauge. you can also install link gauges next to tach. link gauges are cool. They look & operate like analog gauges, but they are digital. I have never seen that accuratetech. thing so I don,t know anything about them.
