Very puzzling. I will see what happens as more of the whole thing is assembled. Thanks for the comments.

This just didn’t seem right (or intuitive) to not have a fixed ground, but it actually makes testing a bit more convenient. Guess I’ll have to get a harness with the relays instead of using the solenoids that came with the motor.

Thanks. I'm holding off on this until more of the whole thing is back together.

As expected with this engine, the screw heads for retaining the trim sensor in the swivel bracket broke off when attempting to remove them. So the threads had to be restored. The attached E-ZLocks were used. Had to drill out an oversized hole and tap them, but it worked out with a relatively low level of pain with the bracket completely removed. The locking material on them was a bit dry so I added in some red Loctite as well. Attached is after paint touch-up. Ready to install swivel bracket now.

The trim, including the small rams, goes all the way down once the swivel bracket has been installed.

You had better luck with your trim sender screws than me. I extracted them and tried to use a tap to clean the threads on one. Tap broke. Long story short: Ended up with a 3/8” frozen aluminum rod and jammed it into the torch heated hole. Ground it flush, drilled, tapped, painted.

I contacted portaproducts about their composite mounts. They said they no longer sell them, but referred me to a number at Sierra. I contacted Sierra, and the technical rep knew nothing about composite mounts, just the normal rubber/metal ones.

Since I don’t have a lathe to turn some delrin ones, it looking like some solid ones will likely be the solution.

Depends on what you want to use the boat for. The Sierra mounts I used were no good. Oversized by like a tenth of an inch. Solid mounts were out since I’m more of a pleasure boater. I ended up just buying new old stock OEM for $80 each pair.

The OEM listed part numbers are 78687 (upper) and 78249(lower) for the Long/Jet, but 77326 (upper) and 77327 (lower) for the XL/XR4/XR6. Anyone know why/what the difference is? Also, from what pictures I see the OEMs look like metal around rubber, but the Sierra (although they may not fit) appear all rubber? Makes me think the OEM would be stiffer.

Btw the boat this motor will be going will be used for (kids) tubing, skiing, barefooting and racing once in a while.

My brother made my delrin mounts using a mill and he had to massage them to make them fit, it would of been way easier to make on a lathe though.

Mine was the XL, so the choice was made for me. But I remember scrolling through a lot of the “wrong” parts numbers for my application on eBay and wishing I could use them. The Sierra mounts looked to be solid Delrin. They were just too fat and my adapters wouldn’t mate proper without overtorquing. I thought about chucking them up, but after deliberating, decided the stock ones lasted this long, if they last that duration again, it’s worth the $$$.

Since the plates that sandwich around the the upper mounts are the same for all of the engines, why would there be a different number for the mounts for the long/jet (i.e. 78687) as opposed to the XL/XR6 (i.e. 77326)? Are the mounts difference in some way? Also it seems some suppliers don't carry the 78687 anymore and/or list the 77326 for the long/jet also.

I just bought two OEM mounts for the top and plan to use solids for the bottom. Anyone else do this? How did it work out?
