Next thing I want to do is check the lower main bearing for signs of rust. Never had one of these apart this far. So if I take the front half off, and then the end cap, will the bearing be exposed and can be slipped right out?

It’s a pressed on bearing. Have to remove crank. Total disassemble .

You need to tear it down anyway to clean it properly and check crank journals.

I use 8mm 12 point socket for rod cap bolts. Can be tight little boogers.

Might want to put a small amount of heat on the rod cap bolts to soften the red loctite.

Taking a break from the power head at this point. Preparing the mid-section. Need to convert it from the 25" to a 20".
So far almost lost a fight with trying to replace the manual release assembly (that nylon screw). Is was all mangled and frozen. I should immediately have used the heated screwdriver method, but thought an ez-out would work well. Well it didn't. Almost wrecked my ez-out, but then got all the pieces out using a drill and then the last piece with the heated screwdriver.

Soon I should be deciding on some new motor mounts to update the mid-section. Basically there seem to be two choices, the rubber ones or the solid ones. This 150 will be going onto a 17 foot Glastron CVX-17. Should I be concerned about vibration or wear on the steering hardware or anything else with the solid mounts? Or how about two rubber on the upper to absorb some of the engine vibration and two solid on the lower to stiffen it up?

Sierria makes plastic mounts(delrin) i believe, i made my own delrin mounts and there is a little more vibration but nothing to worry about and about the only time i feel the vibration is with motor tuck all the way in or trimmed down all the way.I believe you would have less wear on the bottom truion on the bottom of the swivel tube since everything is more solid.

Boy I may be in trouble now (mounts on hold for a while).
The power trim was working fine, but the nylon value (manual release assembly) was all messed up and frozen so that I could not release pressure to allow manual operation in the case it would be needed some time in the future.
So I replaced the valve. This turned into a mess, and involved drilling and heating, but I believe it was finally successful, and is now replaced with a new one.
Also, I thought the pipe plug needed to be removed to properly drain the unit and replace the fluid. This also turned into a mess and also involved drilling and a tool that worked very well from Vermont American called a straight flute screw extractor. I believe that this was successful as well, and is now replaced with a new one.
The problem now is that when attempting to refill the unit (in the up position), when I run it in the up direction fluid squirts straight out of the pipe plug.
Not sure if my procedure is wrong, or did I mess up something drilling out the old parts?

Is there a hole in the pipe plug? From your picture kind of looks like there is.
When drilling and removing the old plug did you hit any of the threads in the housing so they’re not able to seal now?

The threads were not damaged when drilling out the old plug. It came out clean with the extractor with the hole diameter smaller than the plug threads.
However, I can not be sure if there was a hole in the old plug to start, but there is one in the new part, which matches the stream coming out for sure. That is the way the new part (mercury part #56800) came. That did seem strange to me. I would not have expected there to be a hole but that is the part number listed and I have nothing to compare it against.

Strange... for a newer version of the power trim unit that I thought I had the pipe plug part number is #878089. I wonder if my unit is actaully the newer one and requires that part. Maybe that one does not have the hole in it as it is little cheaper. I just ordered one so will find out.
