Wow, that’s a lot of painting. What kind did you use?

From what I've read, automotive paint is really better quality, but for this I took a chance and went on the cheap... Moeller spray cans... about $9 per can. It's lacquer based, and dries fast. As long as you don't wait too long between coats no sanding is required. It smells really bad, so I figured it might hold up.

After trying to consider all of the particulars of my situation (e.g. price, lack of a lathe, reliability, vibration, vibration avoidance, wear, safety, performance, etc.), I finally decided to go with a full set of bobsmachine solid mounts. So if anyone needs a pair of unused OEM uppers, let me know ($120/includes shipping).

Had some distractions the last few months, but had a chance to do some more work the last few days... attaching the mid-section to the swivel (connecting the motor mounts). Aside from the missing washers, can anyone confirm which upper mount is in correctly? I think the one on the left (or bottom) is with the long part towards the inside, but its been a while since taking it apart so I'm forgetting.

Can anyone tell me if these upper mounts were installed correctly (i.e. long side inward)?

Also, does that leather bumper between the steering arm and housing assembly really do anything? I already torqued the bolts and forget to put that in between.

That looks good. Long side in is correct. The bumper is listed as “use where applicable” in the parts book. Not too big a deal to put it in since you have it though...

Too far out. All I can say is that I'm heading in the right direction. My guess is next summer I'll be in shape to attempt to fire. Hoping to get the power head mounted before Thanksgiving. I think I'm close to that.

Any gasket sealant or anything else (besides new gaskets) like that recommended between the top and bottom plates, or between the power head and top plate?

I just did mine dry but had a fresh cut on everything. If you clean it good dry should b fine, dont really wanna take a chance of getting sumthin stuck in water passage of the plate imo

Great thanks. I didn't really want to add anything unless there was a good reason.

Does this gasket look right? The medium sized holes just around the inside perimeter don't directly line up to anything.

So now what concerns me a little more is that the old bottom plate from the 25" mid is a little different than the one that came with my replacement 20" mid. Anybody know the difference and is the replacement one OK to use?
