we taught to lean with back flat on wall, knees at 90*--practice standing few times before heading to water, from hydroslide, lay on forearms and as boat pulls you up/bring legs forward and THEN have boat accellerate to 35-38 and put feet down using well worn tennis..the wall trick will teach to keep feet wide and when one foot goes under water, the body will turn sideways and no faceplant..master the tennis and then go for barefeet.have taught coupla hundred people this way-th

Thats exactly how we did it also. 90% of the guys who wanted to try it used the Hydro-slide. Then theirs the guy who jumped out of tree into the lake and just goes!! haha Show OFF haha :]

You have lots of power. If u can pull a salmon skier u can easily pull someone doing a deep water start.

Super old thread, but at 180lbs I did deep water barefoot starts behind our 1984 115 tower of power equipped 16’ 4winns horizon no problem whatsoever ever for years. Boat had a top speed of 50mp and I usually requested 42mph.

I did it over 30 years ago off a heavy blue and yellow surf mat. Also did with a
Hydroslide. Formula of weight divided by 10 plus 20 so that a 180 lb person has
to go at least 38 mph. Many enemas learning. Good luck.

Another factor when addressing the speed. The boat has to be able to hold that speed with the extra load it’s seeing from the barefoot skier.
If the boat can do 40 but it’s going to lose 10 with the barefoot skier, that’s not going to work.

I did it behind a 20 foot Crestliner with a 235 Johnson. Speed dropped
very little. I only weighed 170 at that time.

Years later and my brother has yet to try barefooting. We are still slalom skiing though. He is down to 180 lb, and we have a 150 now. I am sure the boat could pull him barefoot

Stick with the slalom, I beat my self up one time, give me the ski...

Back in 1978 a guy told me he skied at cypress gardens a few years before so he tried to teach me, I remember painful feet and some bad

falls and not wanting to it again, no ski suit, definite need suit...

So after the pro finished I turned around and ran over my favorite inlayed Connelly ski It was upside down in the chop, I saw It at the last second but the skier was standing up behind me and I chose not to spit him out.
