Is this to much setback ?
Hey guys ! I could use a little help here. Most setback i have ever had on a boat is 2".I tripped across this 89 17' Conquest w/Merc 200 and am really close to pulling the trigger seeing how it's clean, everything functions and right in my pricerange.Only problem is there is not much info around on the this boat and i was taken back by the amount of setback.Any feedback would be appreciated.

Any words on this boat/setup would be appreciated seeing how the closest thing i have ever had to a fast tunnel boat is my incredibly slow Sleekcraft....Though i enjoy that tank .I am looking to step up my game and experience something new and it kills me that i can't find any info on this boat what so ever.

To me that looks like twice as much as you would need and i would think that boat would porpoise at low speeds. Not familiar with that hull tho. Cool boat.

just try it, I would think it will be ok.
the left steer just means it old, most boats ( most boats) went to right hand steering around 1973/4.
looks nice boat. needs a lot of polish and make it nice and shiny.
proper cool retro boat.

that looks very very nice,
me personally would leave the ski pole in, its handy for when towing the haters back in ha ha .
I think the whole thing looks bloody lovely, and in good condition..
I am not seeing anything I would change about it, it all looks very good.
if she runs like she looks your in for some real good times in that boat... I would love it for sure.
it looks like its set up for max speed, might of been a ski racer ? youl soon find out when you get her wet

Ohhhh ! It runs great ! Low hours on the power head.....I for one think the only reason the motor is set back so far is to be able to tilt the motor with the ski pole on,cause when i tilt the motor as is,it just clears.Side note,i have hit the water at 50mph back when i used to race jet ski's,and i can't even imagine what it would feel like at 70 + ..OUCH EEEE WHA WHA ! : )

Watch the wakes. Those short tunnels can stuff easy. Hope she runs as good as she looks.

yes agree with above keep her nose high with oncoming waves and creeping up behind others, fronts of those dont like to hit any waves.

I had a Speed Liner tunnel and I had to really get it up because of porpoising on top end at other speeds it did all-right just top end

Late to the thread but what a gorgeous boat! What more can you ask for its in great shape with original interior intact and it was a steal? Not to mention unique I would have jumped on that thing in a second if it came up for sale near me. Good Luck with it - you said you re-rigged it, did you change the setback? What speeds were you seeing before and did the changes help or hurt the performance?
