Need help with serial number

Hi, I picked up a late 80's merc 200. 2.5L this fall to work on. The serial number tag is missing on the motor. Is there another way to find out what the serial number is? Or is in on the motor somewere?

first thing is tha 2.5 200 didn't show till '91 in a 7 petal front version.. only year with tha 7 petal.. look on tha welsh plug on top of tha block and/or on tha port side case half flange.. also will be a "build date" stamped at tha bottom of number 2 on tha block half.. kinda right behind tha bend in tha timin' arm.. will be 1/8" numbers.. m/d/yr.

These are some pics of the motor. I did find the date, 041487. I think it's an 87, but is it a 200 or did someone change the cowling?

2.4 200.. only one that year with horizontal front

so it's 2.4 not a 2.5. I need to get some parts for it like the stator, trigger, switchboxes, rectifier, regulator and fuel pump.
