New Crankcase Stuffer Plates from Chris Carson's Marine Service
An Easy and Fast Modification For Mercury Engines▼
Chris Carson’s Marine is adding several new products to compliment our reed valves and spacer kits, focusing on the small block V6 Mercury engines.
This is an inexpensive modification that can easily be performed while changing the reeds, with no added strain on the engine and no penalty to long-term reliability.
Now available are new intake stuffers that mount between the reed blocks and intake manifold, reducing the crankcase volume by moving the reeds into the crankcase .065-inch. This modification results in the exact same gain as with the common practice of milling the front half of the crankcase, but without the need to tear down the engine or any machine work.
The five and seven-petal versions are available now and ready to ship, with an even more effective version for the four-petal engines becoming available within a few days.
Chris Carson's Marine Service will be offering other valuable engine crankcase stuffer products for other engines very soon.

Very nice!
Chris and I had a conversation about these the other day. I think these should yield good results without touching/cutting the front 1/2 or block.

They look good! Has any testing been done on these to validate seat of the pants results?

The height dimension of the five petal reed will allow the 065 stuffer, the four petal will allow a much thicker stuffer, because it is not as high. I originally cut the four pedal stuffers from .186 material, and some motors they fit and on some motors there just a tad high, this can be easily sanded for a perfect fit,Or you can wait about a week for me to get the .125 stuffers completed. They will fit with no modifications. You have a call if you’d like to discuss them, Chris

So what performance gain can be expected? Better acceleration? More top-end?
Rejetting needed after installation?
Thanks

Same gains as milling the crankcase front,a little better performance all the way around I would think, without tearing down the motor,Chris

Any gains on a stock 2.4 200? Or is this for a higher performance application?

Nicely done Chris.
Every hot rod OMC I've ever built, I cut the front half.
Whether you can feel it by itself is debatable but, I wouldn't put a set of reeds in a Merc w/o those shims.
A motor is an air pump. The more you can reduce the volume inside the crankcase, the more efficient the air pump.
On a modded motor it would be even more pronounced.I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.
I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.
