Mercury extended warranty- a lot of stuff not covered-

But they will sell you the "PLATINUM" plan- I bought a new 150 4S last March. Got letter yesterday from Mercury that says "your engine warranty information" - it is actually an "offer" for purchase of an upgrade policy to cover all the stuff not covered by the extended warranty they sell. (Dealer included my extended warranty at no cost to me- which probably means it was no cost to dealer)
Not cheap- $327 and "offer " was sent 10 months after purchase so the sting of orignal purchase is forgotten.
Stuff not covered by extened warranty-
Fuel system (injectors, fuel rails, both fuel pumps, VST, regulator)
NOTHING electrical - no stator, trigger, CDMs, - not even wiring harness
Nothing in controls - wiring harness, shift cables, tach, oil pressure switch, digital throttle/shift

basically not covered is the stuff that fails-

with all that said- since the extended warranty does not cover the prone to failure parts- and that a single trip to shop will probably be more than the $327 -
I am considering buying it anyway- as the extended warranty is not comprehensive.
I wonder if I will get another letter/offer next year.

Some of those letters you get telling you it's time to get am extended warranty are not from Merc, but warranty companies. I bought one of those extended warranties for my truck years ago, paid $1200 for it, ended up using it for about 5K in repairs before it expired. I don't get those offers anymore...............

I wonder how that compares with the other manufacturer's w/tee's?
