Used to hang out a Ritchie's shop when he was in Cape Coral. I was just a kid of 18-19, wanting to learn how to build boats. He let me use one of his 17' molds to make a boat for myself. One helluva guy, and always willing to help someone out. Learned a lot from just watching his shops construction process. 1st time I ever saw a boat fresh out of the mold having it's bottom blueprinted. He was an amazing guy. Sad to hear of his passing.

This post reminds me of when I hung around Henry Lauterbach's shop as I grew up. At that time Lauterbach boats were the ones to beat. How fortunate to love fast boats and be able to be in a place like that. We don't appreciate those times until they are gone.

Back in the very late 60s or very early 70s, the local Mercury Dealer had a Sutphen that was powered by the most powerful twin, 6 cylinder, in-line, production Mercs. It was called the "Green Wink". I believe the boat was about 17 feet long, and was made in New Jersey. That was a awesome boat with a tremendous reputation.

Very, very sad to hear when a boat builder who thinks outside of the box, passes.
