Maimi to Bimini for July 4th 2018

I've been seeing all these youtube videos of people crossing in their boats and jetskis. I'm getting ready to try it. I'm hoping to find a few folks interested in going across for the week of the 4th. Its my 1st time and I'm a little nervous about going solo. Anybody interested in pairing up for the crossing ?

It's a helluva run but your **** better be in tip-top. I've been looking at doing it in my Action but wouldn't be comfortable unless I had a guaranteed chase boat and PLENTY of time to pick my days.

A little over 50. There are days in the Summer that this run is possible. If I'm free and the weather looks nice I'll make the run

50 don`t sound that bad. We do that on our rally runs. Of course we don`t have 12 fters and sharks either. Ya`ll have fun.

I covered the race from Miami to Bimini several years back, and the water was just spectacular. It was just amazing.

Yes on the way over. Typically on the way back, count on the ride of your life.

U do realize it's 150$ to clear customs per boat once you get there? I'm assuming most boats won't have enough fuel to do the round trip and will need to get fuel there.i might be in if we are home on the fourth

First let me say that it's awesome to see this thread... I myself go to bimini 3-4 times a year with the family but in my father's 28 Mako and we've gone during both extremes of conditions, stormy with rain and lightning, and flat and beautiful cruise. I myself want to make the trip in my 22 Velocity and have spoken with other guys here in the Miami and upper Keys area and we also would like to plan for a group ride out there. For those like myself who sit on the ground in our chairs, it can be a bit of a ride especially crossing the shipping line area but man will it be fun. Meanwhile the weather is good it is absolutely doable and I've been told by many others in 20+ footers with single engines that they make the trip all the time.

Also, yes, plan to come with money to check in with customs, fuel ($4-5 per gal out there) aside from food and lodging costs out there. But let me tell you, especially for those who've never been out that way, it is well worth the trip. We average more or less an hour and fifteen minute ride cruising 30-35 mph when its slightly rough/windy in our Mako.

For us locals, it is also doable as a simple day trip on a Saturday to head out there early like 7am in the water already and be back by 4-5pm given that weather and conditions are good. That way, if conditions suck for the ride back, worst case scenari is that you get a room at the Hilton there and head back Sunday.
