So I got some time to run my 23 MTR this week. I have a question about chine walk. When I got to about 90 it started to chine walk and would not drive through it. I jacked the motors more and it went right through 90 and to 100 with no walk. The problem is that with the motors up they didn't pick up enough water so I had to back out. I didn't get enough time to play with adjustments in the 90+ range but wanted to ask if this is common and what is the best way to deal with it?

Let's See Your Cougars-Boats That Is!!!

It is almost Christmas! Is anyone getting a Cougar under their tree this year? Let us know. Also, Great News!! Crazyfish (Joe) is going to start producing the 22MTR from he original molds again. I spoke with him the other night and he is hoping to start production the first week of January. It will be great to see this hull produced again using modern materials and methods. There must more current Cougars out there and if anyone has one for sale, please let us know.
    Thanks
    Gary

buy the 23 from steve ? The boat in question if set up correctly will not chine walk or hop at 90 if you said is true raising motors made it better and it should time for low water pickups, what power you running?

For sure I don't have enough seat time in it yet. This is my first Cat, I've had Mod VPs for the last 20 years. I'm glad to hear it's not a common trait and I just need to learn what it wants. It has 300XS's with sportmasters and 3 blade 32 ET's with a little extra cup. I just bought a pair of 34 4 blade humpback cleavers to see what they will do. I hope that they will give me a bit of stern lift to get those heavy 300XS's out of the water quicker and carry the weight at a slower speed. For sure it doesn't need bow lift like my Lavey does. I expect the ET's will be better for top end but the cleavers may be better for general cruising. Any thoughts about what to expect from the different props? I've seen pictures of Cougars plumbed with water pickups on the boat and mine has a pair of fittings in the pod that are capped off. I'm interested in how well that works and if it's worth the trouble of setting it up that way. It seems to like the motors up high. I'll take all of the Cougar advice I can get!!

cleavers will lift stern ,you might want to get the low water pickups working so to raise motors to a height that the boat likes it , steve ran it with 280's at 120 and handled like a dream

The guy I got it from bought it without power and put the 300XS's on it. Almost twice the weight as 280's! I have a 280 on my Lavey and it's fun but I'm tired of rebuilding it every two or three years. I have low water pickups with the sportmasters, what do you mean I need to get them working. Are you talking about the inboard pickups?

Hull pickups ,my 23 daytona had 18 inch setback with hull pickups and propshaft height at 3 inch above my 22 twister does not have hull pickups and i,m limited to 1 3/4 above with 6 inch built in and 6 inch static jackplates if i try to lower motors to say 1 1/4 inch weird things happen to go fast smoothly the less lower unit in the water is best for handling

Yep that's correct. Jim (Jwgmt) bought it with no power and had the 300XS's put on it then bought the blue 23 and sold this one to me. See post 102 & 103 in this thread when he had it out on the lower river by Yuma AZ.

Wow 3" above is probably out of the water for the pod, just the skeg in the water. It would be some work to use the hull pickups but something I will think about. Thanks for the replies.
