Great job! it fits in there nicely. Will you have to modify the hatch for the new motor? Keep the photos coming. My friend is a collector of old gas pumps and other memorabilia and he would like some of the items you have in the background.
    Thanks

Thanks! It seemed like the right choice to use the LED indicators. On my Lavey I have mechanical so that's what I'm used to. The LED's of course have discreet steps as opposed to the smooth movement of the mechanical. That and the price would be the only complaints. They were much easier to rig because the trim signal is on the NMEA 2000 bus from the engines so all it took was a NMEA 2000 tap for the Lavorsi to get the trim info. The Lavorsi jack input is analog 0-5V but puts out the NMEA codes as trim 3 & 4 onto the bus. That gives me the ability to put them on the Lowrance as an overlay. I didn't end up using it. That was special programming that I had Livorsi do so they are versatile unites and all custom order. I went to great lengths to make a clean actuator for the morse cable on the Lavey with a ramp on the motor side of the jack plate and a roller that pushes the morse cable that comes through the transom. With the Cougar I made my own actuators also because I don't like morse cables for jacks and that was the only thing I could find for mechanical to electronic. I used bicycle cables which I found in stainless with stainless jackets. Both actuators were big projects but I think the are each better than anything available of-the-shelf. The first four pix are the Cougar and the last two are the Lavey.

I just took another look at the photos of your actuators. WOW that was some truly custom work to make those and getting them set-up.
    Thanks for posting the photos

I love to do those kind of things on my toys. I couldn't live without a machine shop!

Any one have a trailer cover for a 21 MTR or know of anyone who has the patterns? I have people who can make one but prefer not having to take the boat somewhere if I don't have to.

300R is going to be mounted in a few weeks.

    cougar dave (can)

I thought I might add to the post started by Gary (Hydrogasm) “lets see your Cougar that is”. Attached photo could be called “lets see your Cougar that was”. This is as close as I can come to displaying the very first Cougar Tom made out of his garage in Duncan on Vancouver Island, almost to the day, 51 years ago. It is a 16 1/2 foot vee bottom called “THE SPRINT” I think it took him something like 2 weeks to just lay it up and yes it was built like a tank and about as heavy as one

He and his wife moved to Salmon Arm in 1972 where he and I formed Cougar Custom Boats and over the years made something like 600 boats with one tunnel going as far as New Zealand to come back as an aluminum hulled 19' jet river racer and one even going to China??

It has been fantastic to read and see all the boats in this post over the past year or so and see how many are still out there with some even going through restoration. I am sure TOM would be “proud as bunch” (English saying for Super Proud) to see all this and read the comments. He made one “hell of a boat” He retired to Mexico but we still keep in touch.

PS Try emailing me direct if there is anything I can help you with or if you would like a copy of the history of the company

I have the exhaust and drive work finished up.Had to have the riser welded up to match the water ports and better flow the exhaust.(old style to new style Powerflow).I had bought a set of used risers(saved about 1500). The lower unit need some of its patina to go away. Also remove the front water pump and put a water pass over on.That saves about 50 pounds and a belt.Got lucky and did not have to modify the hatch(thanks Cougar boys)Just abut ready for a beat down on her,LOLClick image for larger version.

I got my new Zeiger 7" tilt helm and Charlynn steering valve on Monday. What beautiful piece of workmanship. Thank you to Paul Everett at Everett Performance for his help in ordering it. I hope to get it installed today.
    Thanks

300R Mounted! - Not just waiting for ice to clear

I had the 300R bolted on yesterday. Very excited to see how she performs compared to the XS with DBR. Also put a bobs extreme action jack plate on it (very nice unit) and fixed a few imperfections in the floor. Little bit of wiring, install the interior, ceramic coat and then just wait for the ice to clear.

That looks great on there but it seems very high in the air with the jack plate all the way up? How many inches about the pad are you? Keep us posted and thanks for posting the photos.

Thanks im very happy with it. I had the plate all the way up for trailering. The xs ran about a half inch above the pad give or take. Never measured exactly cause i just went up with the plate till water pressure was at 9 lbs. Im told these run about an inch higher than the xs so that puts me at 1.5 in above the pad but we will see.
