I never could get this to work. My plan now is to just get rid of my Brutaco and get a new one from Brandon powers.

That sucks. That's exactly what I was worried about. I'm waiting to hear back from Brendan as to what he thinks I can do with my setup. I'll be very pi$$ed if that's the only solution.

i have a PCU and that connector would be the fuel adjuster not the interface
i am guessing this is the same for the ACU
the serial port would be the connector of choice

have you already used the AIM software?

I believe you are right. I haven’t hooked up anything as yet. I just have the Dash/Datalogger mounted in the boat and I’m just trying to figure out the wiring. I ASSumed that the AiM serial connector had to plug into the ACU and be connected to the Datalogger for it to work properly??
Having some basic instructions in the kit would’ve been a huge help.
My kit came with a serial port adaptor that I believe will plug into the longer harness with the square plug (the one I’m holding in the picture.).
Are you saying that I would need to open up the ACU and plug the serial port adaptor into the serial port inside the ACU and then connect the long harness to that and run the harness forward to the AiM dash? I don’t think I want to mess with that.
I have not yet used the AiM software, but Brendan told me that he set everything up based on my input. I did tell him I had a Brucato ACU. So, maybe I have everything I need, then? I’ll wait to see what he says.
Thanks very much for your input.

yes that was what i was thinking.
maybe you can post a picture of the serial port adapter?
if it was a complete kit you should not have to hack wires , most likely hook everything up and log into your mxl2 with the software
your mxl2 needs to be told what to do with the data coming in
    do post screenshots of that

I’ll post a picture of the serial port adaptor.
Prior to shipping it to me, Brendan connected everything and set up the MXL2 based on a bunch of questions he asked about my setup, and I told him I needed (like setting the tach @ 12,000 rpm, etc.), so it should now be basically a plug and play deal.
I’m anxious to get everything connected and power it up. I’ll post a few pictures of that as well.

Here’s the AiM 849849 AXX cable (part number X50EN849849) alongside the serial port adaptor wire that came with my kit.
Unfortunately, it appears that there’s no way to connect this permanently to the serial port inside the ACU, as the terminals/wires on the back of the serial plug will ground out against the back plate of the ACU (see picture).

***EDIT: IF you coat the pins on the serial connector with liquid tape and CAREFULLY bend them upwards, the serial connector can work without worrying about the pins potentially grounding on the back plate of the ACU.***

Still trying to figure out if I need any of this for the MXL2 to read RPM, etc...

*** EDIT: The AiM can read RPM from both the ECU (ACU) using this harness and also from the grey “tach” wire in the mercury wire harness. ***

    There are options for this
You have a little extra space inside the cover
    Should be enough
Machine in a second opening to bring out the wire loom

You can use the display in standalone and have sensors hooked up straight to the dash

Thanks man. Thus is very helpful info. I was looking at the plug last night and thinking I could cut the wires off the serial plug and trim the pins to make the plug shorter, and then solder the wires back on the pins at a 90* angle, to gain more clearance.
There’s almost enough room in the slot where the main ECM harness comes out the side of the box for the serial port wire loom to come through, so it’s possibly that I would only need to open that up slightly.
I think I’m going to try it in standalone mode first and see how that works.

if you do start soldering, it's always nice to use shrinking tube to cover the solder joints

Yep, for sure I’ll use heat-shrink tubing. Love the stuff.

Just to update this thread, I cut the serial plug and resoldered the wires for more clearance and used liquid tape to cover them to avoid any shorting on the ACU cover.
Today I hooked everything up to the AiM MXL2 dash and connected the ECU cable per the instructions included with the kit.
However, MXL2 dash does not read any data from the ACU. I double checked all my connections, but it won’t display any ECU data.
Brendan told me last week that it “should work” with the later black ACU, which is what I have, but no dice.
I suppose I was expecting too much, since the AiM instructions clearly list the ECUs it works with, and the Brucato isn’t listed.
Still, I wish I hadn’t wasted the time and money on it, since I still have ample data from external sensors.Other than this, I’m loving this little MXL2 dash.
Would really like to know if there is a cable that could make this work, since I already have everything already installed and created a page on the MXL2 that’s configured to read the ECU.

If you log into the dash, is the mercury stream enabled?
    Are the ecu channels enabled?
Use printscreen on your pc to post what you are seeing
Paste it in paint and save as a .png

Yessir. Actually, I selected MERCURY as the Manufacturer and then selected Brucato ACU as my ECU: since AiM has that in their list:

(Apologies for the grainy image, but I snapped a pic of my laptop screen, since my laptop wasn’t connected to the internet when the photo was taken.)

Here is a picture of the Display screen that I set up specifically for displaying ECU data:

It should be noted that I’m using the ECU for the RPM source on this screen. It doesn’t read anything from the ECU. I’ve double checked the wiring, made sure that I have the ECU CAN wires (blue and white) connected to the proper leads on the AiM dash, and the red + wire is connected to 12v power and the black - wire is connected to ground.

Otherwise, the MXL2 works great off the A/D channels: It reads RPM (from the grey “tach” wire in the mercury harness); Battery Volltage (from wire harness); Water Pressure (from AiM sensor); Fuel Pressure (from VDO 5-bar sensor, which is off by about 4 psi [reads 52psi instead of actual 56psi]); Trim (via an AiM potentiometer on the PPE trim limit switch); EGT (from AiM sensors) and; Engine Height (from PPE F1 up/down sensor). I still need to connect the GPS antenna and install a water temp sensor, which I’m waiting on from PPE.

Here are the two other screen configs, both of which work (NOTE: in these two pics it shows the RPM source as ECU, but that is the result of me dicking around with it. It’s normally set to read RPM from the A/D channels list, which works fine.
