    FL boy needing winterization input

So I moved to Texas.... and things freeze here. Have a 260 mercruiser and best idea I have seen for running anti-freeze through was a guy who had a bucket with a water pump of some sort that recycled the captured antifreeze. ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQaYJqOQSUI ) He had some bent/shaped sheet metal looking catchment deal that directed the output into a 5 gal bucket.... pump took it and put it back to the ears. I realize many people run it off gravity and/or let the impeller suck it out of a bucket, but think the re-circulation idea seems to be a really good one that would take stress off the impeller and obviously do a fantastic job of running the antifreeze thoroughly through the system.

Anyone made one these kind of systems? Wondering if the coolant would be too hot for a large output aquarium pump?(I have one already...) If not, guess it's time to get a sump or small rv water pump or something....?

You guys drain all the fluid then again after the coolant runs thorugh or just call it good with coolant in the system?

Thanks for any pointers, new to this whole "winterization" thing... and sure don't want a cracked block ro lower unit... yadda, yadda.

Drain the block and manifolds first, take a small pick to clean the rust and scale from the drain fittings to make sure the block and manifolds drain completely, make a five gallon bucket with a fitting so you can hook a hose to your muffs so it sets on the swim platform or whatever. Warm the motor up, drain it, fill the bucket with 4 or 5 gallons of non tox, start the motor and shut it off as the bucket nears empty. Shoot some fogging oil in the carb during the last couple gallons.

The best anti freeze to use is the -100 propylene glycol blue stuff. The pink crap is meant for plastic rv systems and is mildly corrosive.

If you get all the water out no need for antifreeze, don't forget to pull the circulating pump hose. Also if an older 260 pull the cooler hose on the stbd side.

You beat me to it. I was just going to add that.

Remove the battery, keep it up. Check all hydraulic fluids replace as needed. Check belts replace if needed, Check plugs and wires cap etc, all hoses and clamps, change the oil and filter while warm and still on the hose if you can. Grease and lube as needed etc
Clean and wax hull, brightwork, vinyl, carpet, windshield, helm controls and gauges. Front to back check

Yep, older alright.... 1980. Had to be obtuse, but which hose is the cooler hose? Aren't that many, guess I could pull all of them and let 'em drain but sounds like a particular one you are referring to. From thermostat back?

    Thanks for the help!

I'll look. Was in NAPA yesterday but they only had their own brand pink stuff. Is the -100 blue prop. an automotive or RV product? Just wondering if it's tucked in next to the usual dexcool, prestone & other car stuff.

Should be on STBD side of motor below exhaust manifold and above block drain. Follow the ps hoses they run to the cooler.
