107 MPH 15' Allison, nice restoration

Hey Everyone, thought you would enjoy the story of this very cool 15' Allison restoration. A young guy named Mike did it himself. The thing screams, 107 MPH with a built 2.5. He sold it a while ago but cool story.

Local Canadian member, I believe he sold it. Closest I was to it was in heavy traffic on the highway heading north. Looked wicked on the trailer.

I have the same boat 16.5 ft Allison 1979 center steer factory race stringer boat it will not float with a v-6 merc on it or am I missing the two guys holding it up to get it on plane for that photo? yes we put a 2.5 on it and it would not float off the trailer but maybe you guys have a better system than we did like photo cropping???

Mike's boat is for real. I've seen it in person, rigged it on a crane to be weighed, watched him drag race it. It floats, it drives, and it runs the number he claims.

Had a 1972 15 footer with a 150XS on it that ran low 80's. (28 chopper) So with another 100+ hp it is def possible to go what he claims. Mine had two 6 gal tanks and a batt in back and would just barely float. He must have the weight placed fwd. Very cool old boat for sure. Looks fantastic.

Not sure what y'all were doing wrong but a 16 ft will most definitely float a V6

That and Mikes boat had a 12" xr case motor that probably isn't much heavier than the I6 many ran on these boats... And it was that fast. It was super super cool

First of all would just like to say thanks for the awesome article that got put together on my boat - It was a long project but the end result was definitely worth the time invested in it. The boat is now sold and I have no doubts it will be very well looked after.

As for the floating and driving comments it had no issues. The motor was already lighter than a stock motor being built with the lightweight clamp bracket and a 12" mid. It was rigged with only the small odyssey battery, and the 12 gallon gas tank was mounted right behind the drivers seat (tried to keep the weight as far forward as possible). I'm not a heavy guy by any means but I played with set up and ended up adding a bit of weight forward of the bulkhead to help balance the boat. You'll see in the 2 pictures I've posted - the first picture was from the very first time I put the boat in the water (it had zero ballast at that time) and although was a bit low in the transom definitely floated just fine. The second picture was a side shot after having the boat set up and balanced correctly.
