What phone are you all using these days?
I generally keep using a device - be it a computer, tablet, or phone - until it is unable to perform as needed, especially for work stuff. It seems like many people are getting into a yearly upgrade cycle, since phone companies are offering financing for new phones. It seems awfully expensive to me to get a new phone every year, but that’s just my opinion.
Right now, I’m still using my four year old Samsung Galaxy Note 2. I use it heavily for Scream And Fly work and although a bit slow now, it still fulfills all tasks I need it to. It’s funny because a few of my friends were shocked to see that I’m using such an ‘old’ phone.
I’ll probably need need to upgrade soon, so I thought to ask what all of you are using and how you like it. I really need a large screen to do work on, and the Google Pixel 2 is looking pretty good. I’ve considered an Apple phone too, but I think I prefer Android for a phone. I have an iPad, which has replaced nearly 90% of my former laptop work, and iOS is pretty good. The iPad has proved to be a lifesaver at shows; lugging around a laptop and photo gear at the Miami Boat Show can get tiring.

One of my brothers is using an iPhone 5 and likes it. His kids have newer iPhones and always seem happy with them.
I use a flip phone I got from ATT new for 15 dollars about 5-6 years ago. I cancled my monthly plan several years ago and use the Go Phone plan these days. I buy 100 dollars of min. that are good for 365 days and can carry over all unused min. if I renew before 365 days are up.
I use a phone so little these days that I'm still using 2016's min.
I'm like you now with electronic devices. I bought a new laptop this year. My old one was 8 years old.
Back when I built my computers I upgraded often. I'd upgrade the CPU when they introduced one 50% faster than the one I had on my MB. I'd upgrade graphics cards when new games I played required it; I was mainly into racing sims. I always got MB's that OC'ed well and always got plenty of RAM and a stout power supply.Last edited by CDave; 11-08-2017 at 02:22 AM.

Samsung S5 Neo, wife has Note5. The Note5 has a better camera and bigger than mine, like mine as water proof to 1 meter and I need that working around boats.

Sam S6 for a phone. The last one was a Sam Rugby flip; I would still be using if I hadn't lost it. Also have a Tab S2. Samsung seems to be working pretty well for me.
Upgraded my desk top with another custom unit assembled by a friend of mine. The other custom unit still works and is 9 yrs old.
I did NOT have good luck with a Sony Vaio. You talk about a buggy POS. It just up and died when it was a year and a half old.
Oh and Greg, I still have my 8200 and it still works!!! LOL!!!

Company iPhone 6s+. They'll upgrade me to an X in Feb after my 2 years is up. Phone works fine, still gets updates, just getting a bit beat up from dropping it so many times with a small/thin style case.
Wonder who that was?

That's awesome! I still have my 8200 as well! At the time, that laptop was incredible. I remember lugging that thing around at the Miami boat show in 2004. I had two batteries in mine and that thing got very heavy after a few hours. I was very thankful for the Mercury guys for letting me stash it at the Mercury booth while I did other things. I think my shoulder never fully recovered.
We had no built-in wireless in those days so I remember I had to plug a card into it for that. Miami had just introduced wireless internet at the convention center and I thought I was so high-tech when Rick Mackie was very impressed with the machine. LOL! I loved the 8200 because back then it was one of the few machines that could successfully run Half-Life and Counter-Strike. I thought about using it as some sort of file server since it still works. In the past I did use it as a multiplayer Half-Life server. Haha

I'm using the P.O.S. free Samsung that you get at Metro PCS. $40 a month contract unlimited everything. Pretty good service and the phone is small but still readable. I'm eligible for a new free phone every couple years.

I use Oneplus One.
Love it. 3 or so years old and is as fast as it was when new. It's an outright purchase, no monthly plans cause they don't offer cell service. They just make phones... you pick your carrier as long as it uses a sim card. It's a global, unlocked dual sim phone. Go anywhere in the world, pick up a pay as you go sim for that area and your all set... Amazing camera, display and processor is top of the line, tons of RAM.
ZERO bloatware, and they don't care if you root the phone for a custom ROM, but there is no need for that. Most root for a custom ROM to get away from the bloatware...(advertising and apps you will never use or want to use)
The latest version is the OnePlus 5, my son has it and loves it.
About $450 IIRC.
