    Setback help

I got a really good deal on a hydraulic jack plate but it only has about 6 in of setback I want to run somewhere between 10 and 12 inches of total setback .... with a boat running in the 90s is it safe to have two plates bolted together... who makes a good one ....or could i have a local shop make me one .... basically what are the do's and don'ts ...i have never ran a setback plate and a jack plate ... my plan was to get one of those fast manual jack plates 12in but I got this hydraulic plate on trade ... so if I can get the set back right I'd like to go ahead and use it any input is appreciated thanks again guys

I use a 12 static setback plate with a 6" CMC power plate for a total 18". Works great. Before that I used a 6" manual plate then the 6" power plate. That worked great as well. I have a 21 footer and have a heavy big block DFI engine.

Obviously make sure your transom can handle the setback. Use a 4" or 6" static or manual plate on the boat side and mount the engine to the power plate. Not the other way around. You don't want to have a 6" plate trying to lift 10"-12" of setback. My preference would be to us a static plate rather that a manual adjustable plate. I think the static ones are generally stronger and there is less to worry about.
