Strokes- not the 2 cycle kind!
As many fellow members know I had a stroke 5 weeks ago, and well rehab is doing great would like to hear from others who have been down this road. 2 weeks after first stroke I had a setback. They say it was similar to an TIA. 2 weeks as of today I'm working with the rehab team to recover my balance again. Fells like I have a constant "drift" to the left all the time. Walking, setting in chairs, standing and not moving. Even when I walk the head(brain) thinks I'm going left. So far everything works as it should and my memory is as good as before. My muscle strength is the same for left and right side, vision is normal, etc. I just feel like I had 2 beers to many all the time. And I normally only have 1 beer per week!(lol). Comments welcome and if U prefer not to post, just PM myself. Also thanks for all the prayers I received to date but need more....

I don't believe I heard about your stroke. Hope recovery goes fast and easy. You will be in my prayers.
Closest I had was a minor heat stroke. The only thing I noticed after it as far as motor skills was I had to retrain my right foot touch/feel on the gas and brake pedal in my truck. It was very easy to relearn but caught me off guard when I drove the day after the incident. I hit the brake pedal and came to a screeching halt when I was only trying to slow down for a stop sign.-----------------------

Good luck man. Got a long road ahead of you that won't be fun. I'm sure you'll pull through though.

You will be on blood thinner the rest of your life. There are certain things they will tell you not to eat (foods) which also thin the blood. Doctor told us a list she couldn't eat. Told the doc these vegetables were in our normal diet. I asked if we could continued to eat them regularly but not a couple of days before the monthly blood test so as not to skew the test. She thought about it and then said OK. There are pain meds that you shouldn't take, they thin the blood.
You will regain function rapidly in the next few months and then less. So nows the time!!!
The well meaning people around you(doctors, nurses, rehab peeps) assume you know what they know. What I found was you have to ask ask ask for explanation of what they mean. In my wife's case telling her explaining to her didn't get her to learn. Show and tell was the ticket.
Good luck with your rehab.Gary

OK. First of, welcome back to sun light from the dark side..(no not Mercs!). My mom had a severe stroke at 80, and lived 3 years nursing home, in a chair, no walk, no talk, only movement right arm and facial movement. She was my rock, and the Good Lord took her home.."enough, you are coming home with me.
Anyway, I had lost hearing right ear one day 20 years ago (I'm 67 now) and zero pain, just silence. Went a fast clinic, simple ear infection, but my BP was like 190, over 145 Doc said "see a internal medicine doctor FAST, as a walking heart attack"
So on the pills, but it REALLY took the wind out me! I was helping buck a downed tree for fire wood, but had to go home and sit down.
Then as been riding 2 wheels since 5, been month long USA "road trips" my HD Bagger. But soon riding felt like I was falling over? Left side. Had to quit the road as "natural", has left the building.
FWIW..on feeling like had 2 beers, and heading left? Try 3 more beers, see if ya go right. If so do one more and "onward trough the fog"!
(Ya know I'm kidding, and wish the best.....)

sometimes strokes are more devastating than a heart attack it really comes down to the person in general. My wife is 58 yrs old now 3 yrs ago mini stroke no lip feeling left fingers always numn ? feb this year stroke that was not good made her a 10 yr old two months later another one should have killed her but she pulled throghed and is doing good but can't drive can't have a conversation with you or don.t really know whats really going on in the world and is very frustrating to deal with but I or we divorced two months prior to this and are now closer than we were ever before and is a vere hard thing to comprehened as she really cant see how bad she really is. racervboat, hang in there I know being a care giver is tough but it is worth it. I was the only care giver for my sister for almost a year, until we had to put her in a nursing home. Even with the elevated pain in my bad knee I would do it all over again. She passed away two months after putting her in the nursing home; complications from juvenile diabetes.

Just keep the prayers coming. That said so far I'm very, very lucky to be able to do what I can. Walking getting better with my drift to the left less. I'm in God's hands and pray more than I have in years. I've lost 20lbs and down to 205 and need to get at least 20 more off. With my great wife been eating healthy along with extensive rehab twice a week along with exercises I do 3 times a day at home. The stroke been in the works a long time. I no longer find a need to take a daily nap. And with God's help I plan to get through this and have a suggestion to my fellow boaters!
Change your life style and get healthy.

Today I celebrate 90 days post STROKE. Making progress weekly... walking mostly in a straight line, feelings returning to left side slowly, I'm even driving again. Brain still has a ways to go but not feeling like I'm close to sober feeling. Merry Christmas and thanks for all the prayers.
