Ill need to get a rules clarification .
But I believe that above a 22" rim your not allowed to call it a Cutlass anymore . It is referred to as a "donk". I really don't know why , since it is too tall for those extra large ba-donk-a-donks to line the back seat . If you did manage to crane them in there , the tires would rub and burn the paint and at that point it would be just another hooptie ...

Excellent point ....

Mid Life , You don't miss a thing ...
The Mrs . use to think I was crazy when I would tape rice paper to the TV and trace parts out , and scale it off of something else in the picture to get an exact size ... Now she helps ..
I was released from my hand shake contract , so that I could build some Mercury stick-mids. All the jigs , fixtures , templates and stuff for doing 6 + 8 cylinder OMC's still belong to Gordon . Most importantly , I still get an invitation to the Christmas party ..
There are a few reasons that the "trellis" looks tall . Compared to an OMC or 3.0 Merc , the 2.5 has a footprint that is only half as long , giving an allusion of being tall . With no diagonals in yet , you get the "pinstripe suit" thing happening .
We are not going with the stock adapter plate which is aprox 3" tall . Instead we are using the "blender / coffee pot" as the bottom of the block . It's a really nice piece , built in Canada .
Also , it will be run in a class that mandates a 15" mid section ... This one is proud by a sixteenth .
I have some piece's under the tree's in front that tie into the swivel / tilt assembly that are a little different from the others I have made . These are spread out a bit and will bolt in place of a standard clamp bracket .
The guys that are getting this one are already accomplished racers with a well set up boat and strong motor program . They have really been a pleasure to work with . Actually , my instructions were ... here's money , do your thing brother !
Hard to beat that
PS .. does that little tube look anything like the exhaust snout sticking back on a stock 15" can ...
Maybe just a little ...

Glad to see that style of contract still has merit today. Neat idea using standard clamp bracket set up. Snout shorter than the standard Aurora size of 12/13?

I really like the nikon 300 f/4. Works well with the 1.4 tele as well. The older version can be had cheap in the used department now.
Houston camera exchange has a good one for just under 400.00, I almost grabbed it since I miss mine so much. I’ve been using the 80-400 vr a lot and still miss the light fast 300/f4.
They also have a version one 300 2.8 that’s rough looking on the outside from use but mechanically perfect. For 800ish
I played with both of These and mounted to my body and tested. They are good to go. The 300 f/4 is clean.
You can view view them online on their website and buy online too if you were interested.
The 300 f/4 focuses ALOT faster than your 70-200 f/4 with a tele, heck it’s faster than my 70-200 2.8 vr with a tele.
Anyway nice pics and thanks for posting im sad I missed it.
Will be back for Catahoula and back to racing as soon as I have fixed all the Harvey damage on my house

Perhaps I didn't explain myself very well .
There is a ton of weight in the stock clamp assembly . And of course I am doing one of my own . The OMC F1 is a tightly constructed unit with a fairly small bolt circle pattern.
Mercury uses the standard bolt pattern and most transoms are drilled accordingly . Which gives me a little more room width wise to make the can not look so tall . Pictures also tend to distort things , well at least those shot from a phone . Kev , Greg and Freezzzee Jeff ~ not so much ..
The handshake deal :
I took a set of headers to my Porsche guys . They were a copy of some antique design that the car owner just had to have .
The boss man asked how much he owed me ... I said , standard price will be fine .
He said , I told you to keep track of your time , that I know these weren't going to be like the ones you can do in your sleep ... Normal price is fine .
He handed me a check out of his top pocket for $100 dollars short of "double the standard price". I told him , I cant do that to you ... He said , look at it from my point of view ...
If you don't make money , you cant pay your rent , light bill , phone bill so I can call you , sanding wheels , belts , grinding bits , stones , argon , tungsten , filler rod , lathe- mill bits - cutters and everything else it takes to keep the doors open . So you see , besides us being friends , it's in my best interest to see you succeed . With that , I took the check , shook his hand and thanked him ...
On the way home , he texted me the specs on the next two sets he wanted built ...
Vnemous :
I've been accused of making the house smell like transmission fluid , machining oil , safety clean etc ...
It's nice that I can return the favor ... geeezzz girls , the whole house smells like wet paint ...
Some big art show , they got plans to rent a booth ...
Best part is, in the mean time they don't try to micro manage what I'm doing .
Even though , they don't spend money with me ...
I took the high road and was their first sale ... kind~a matched our cars paint scheme ...
