I finally got internet service back today, so now I have a lot of catch-up to do. I am really surprised at how much worse Naples seemed to have been hit than Cape Coral. They kept saying that a 16-foot storm surge was coming, but I don't think the water rose more than a foot here. That was a huge relief. We have to watch Jose now - looks like that one may threaten the northeast.

Wasn't that bad here in Punta Gorda-no damage to house or boats/vehicles-few branches and banana trees down..Storm passed 10-15 miles east of me and that made a huge difference..we got the wimpy side of what was left of it when it came up from Naples..Power and internet was back on Monday night...After being completely wiped out by Charlie in 04 (took my roof) I was very glad to have missed the worst of Irma..The keys and Naples got it bad (Cuda-I know what you are going through and it sucks-I have a generator if you need it Greg 941-875-8388

I just got back in town tonight. I wasn't coming back until we had power. Hindsight is always 20/20 and looking back, I would do the same thing over again. We boarded up Thursday and I was at LOTO for a full week enjoying the weather and great people from that area. We were very fortunate to get access to the same house that we rented for the shootout and had a great hurrication. If anyone needs something or shelter here in Florida, I have plenty of space and a few vacant houses as well. This area is now back up and running with all of the common conveniences readily available.

I wouldn't have wanted to go thru that either . Deb and I waited till the storm passed and then moved into the motorhome .
I ran a cord in the house to plug in the refrigerator . Other than that we were pretty self contained camping out in the yard . Just had to pick and choose appliances so we
(she) didn't trip the breaker ...
If I didn't have that , I think for a few thousand dollars I could back feed the house with one of these and have the power to run whatever I wanted .

You can bet that he will have one soon. I think its easier to just roll out and go somewhere nice rather then put yourself through that misery. There were plenty of flights available but we had to take the dog, so road trip it was. We all got lucky that she lost some serious steam after making it to cuba. If it had remained a 5 and hit us like it did the virgin islands, we would have had big loss of life and a lot of striped land. I wasn't hanging around to be part of it.

I understand the logic of avoiding the storm . I think it wouldn't matter how far from home I was , my mind would be here the whole time . Not only my personal belongings but parts and projects that belong to others that I am responsible for . I would hate to be gone and have the buzzards pick the last of what I have . Not worth my life for sure . I guess I have just been around too many ol crusty So. Fla. crabs my whole life .. I been thru Betsy an Donna and I aint going no where ... LOL
I helped a friend move some expensive cars to an inland bunker up the road a piece . It was an 8 hr ordeal to go for a 2 hr ride . Lots of young families with kids on the side of the road overflow spewing what's left in the radiator . I cant help but think that there had to be a bunch of late movers that got stuck in bumper to bumper traffic when the storm rolled thru .
Fly out ... my man ! Vegas , French Riviera , Rio ..

On the whole house generator.... Get a propane genset with an underground tank that will hold enough to run the thing for two weeks. A bud of mine did this when he built his place and he rode the storm out with no sweating. And no loss of food. Did find out how many friends he had though.

On that thought ...
10 years ago after getting hit by hurricane Wilma
I bought one of those big whole house 1 liter propane generators , have a 250 gal tank
Never hooked it up, last week I called a electrical company , they said sorry no time , ok I have the one I bought for Wilma
No problem , I told my employee to service it, drained the tank, cleaned carb, new fuel filter it runs great he said.
He never changed the oil , 11 to 12 year old oil, it blew up first hourWe have invented the world; WE see
