I think I’ve figured out how the AiM trim sensor mounts:

I had a local company cut an aluminum panel with a waterjet using a cardboard template I made from the old plastic dash cover, then made a template based on the measurements on AIM’s website and cut the dash panel with a jigsaw.
Once I have all the holes drilled for everything, I’m going to get it powder-coated.
The previous owner had every kind of gauge you could think of in this boat, whereas I’m going for simplicity: By using the MXL2 Dash I can eliminate all of the gauges. The only things I’m going mount on the dash other than the MXL2 is an ignition toggle and a push-start button. And maybe the Digital Delay module.

Managed to get some lexan cut locally too, will soon know how they fit. The good news is that it cost me about half of what it would’ve cost to buy and ship them from Barsh, IF I could ever get them.
I couldn’t get tinted lexan, but I didn’t really care about that anyhow. Will soon be able to see how they fit.

Got a pic from Alex at Ox Performance yesterday that I wanted to share. These will be getting anodized this week, but they already look much better than the old Nydahl stuff. Best part is that Alex is one of the coolest, most responsive vendors I’ve ever dealt with. All of my external steering hardware will be his stuff, except for the wing plates, which I got from Power Performance.

Started fitting together the fuel system this weekend, but now I’m thinking of rebuilding the aluminum cradle that the fuel cell sits in, or at least reconfigure the old one so that the tank is secured better. (Pic below) I need to build a bracket on the cradle to bolt the pump to, and I’ve decide to add a short piece of -10 hose, rather than the solid union coupling pictured between the filter and pump, just to allow for some flex.
    What I’m doing:
Speedmaster 10 gallon cell with Earls screw-on lid; Aeromotive -10AN 100 micron (S/S element) filter, Weldon 1100-A (155GPH) pump; Aeromotive -8AN 40 micron (Microglass element) filter; -8AN hose to Aeromotive Regulator; -8AN return to tank. I know it’s overkill, but I figure better to be safe than low on fuel pressure on a two-stroke.

Got my Ox Performance steering pulleys today. They look even nicer than in the photo. Everything looks to be very good quality, much better than the original Nydahl stuff I had on my Mirage and certainly better than the junk I just took off the STV.

Ox Performance. I think this might be his first set of coaming pulleys, but I’ve seen pictures of the rear pulleys before. What I like about the rear pulleys is that the pulley head can articulate and because the middle of the pulley is a turnbuckle, you can adjust/tighten the cables without removing the pulley from the wing plate.

What do folks think about using one of these butterfly wheels for a drag boat?
I figured since the top fuel funny car guys use them, and I’ll only be racing this boat in a straight line, this should work, right?
one thing is for sure, I will give me easier access into and out of the cockpit, and much better visibility of the AIM dash.
I’ll post another picture of it when it’s installed.

I don't have any personal experience using one of those wheels but one disadvantage I can see is if you have to turn quickly it will be more challenging. Having to cross your hands will be challenging going fast.

I hear you, but I’m not planning to turn fast at speed, lol.
TBH, I‘m not sure I’m going to use it. It only cost like $50 plus freight and import tax so it won’t be a huge loss. I also have a Sparco F10-A (pic below) that I first bought to use, but the damn bolt circle is different (50.8mm) from the helm adaptor on the boat (1 3/4”), and the adaptor is seized tight to the steering shaft.
The butterfly wheel also had a slightly smaller bolt circle and bolt holes as well, but I drilled those out earlier tonight and will try installing the butterfly wheel tomorrow if I can get a chance to work on the boat. If I don’t like it, I’ll get a quick release adaptor for the Sparco and install that.

Been slowly acquiring the parts I need, but was held up for several weeks from installing anything other than the fuel tank and pump cradle assembly, due to the fact that I had decided to re-paint the hull and every weekend it’s been raining. Yesterday, we managed to catch a break and a friend of mine was able to blow the paint over the damaged blue and purple, since the boat had lots of scrapes and spots where it had been touched up before by a previous owner. I was hesitant to paint it with just any old colour, since I’ve loved the look of this boat since I first saw it at Monty’s shop back in 1998? when I bought his old mirage.
Anyways, I managed to get some House of Kolor Kandy base paint and experimented by mixing Orion Silver Metallic with Oriental Blue Kandy and instead of trying to blend it, we just taped out the orange and yellow checkered tear-off pattern and blew the colour on and then covered the whole boat with PPG 2021 clear coat.
It’s not perfect, since we didn’t have a paint booth, but the outcome looks pretty damn good to me. The pictures don’t really do justice, this paint is blindingly dazzling in the sunlight.
Besides, no one is going to see the little blend and dust grains at 100+ anyhow.
Now I can start to fit it all back up and will post more pictures as it progresses:
