    Transom mounted water pickup

Is anyone running these Bobs transome mounted water pickups on High Performance OB's ? I have a STV and running fast it has low water pressure. I was considering trying one of these but wanted some more info and input about these running on a STV or similar air trap hulls. Thanks James Sanderson

Demeanor did a mod on a bobs for his lil tunnel. It turned out good with a lot of tweaking on his part. Hit the search...

Just put one on a 250 Suzuki. Not real pretty but it works.

Man, I'd think that thing might slow you down more than going up in propshaft height would speed you up. I'm sure someone will jump in and correct this, but I remember hearing the old pitot tube speedos (which have a much smaller cross section) would cut 3mph off your speed at 100mph, and the faster you went, the more they slowed you down.

This was my solution on the STV. It works well and keeps my temp at 135 or less.

How fast did they go without the remote pick-up?

It's been a long time...since most people run GPS these days...but if I remember correctly, it was a 100mph boat that picked up 3mph removing the pitot.

    Yes, 100 + 3 = 103.

    James,
Not an STV, but I installed Bob's pick-ups on my Talon 22. The front of the square tube is cut on a 45° angle and a very small length of the tube needs to be below the hull surface to get plenty of water pressure. I recall my first time out I had WAY too much water pressure and just kept inching them up. Maybe 1/16-1/8" of the 45° cut was below the hull when finally dialed in.

In my case I picked up a few mph and the boat handling improved with the engines higher using hull mounted pick-ups.

On the STV & LCB installations, did you make a channel in the hull also or does pick up hang a little below bottom of step?

    Thanks

Very small one (it dosn't take much) and I ran a blow off valve for excess pressure. They work great on 2.5 applications where you can tap into the exhaust plate but the 3L requires going to the case and became a hassle for me.
