77 vector inline power trim 150
Hello everyone,
its been some years since I've actually posted a thread here. Life has caught up to me over the past 7 years or so things have been moving at break neck speeds. My son is 2 already and I am finally getting around to working on a vector project I bought last year.
Ive been motor shopping for awhile now and the right one just has not come along for me yet, which brings me here once again to hopefully gain a little more knowledge about running an old inline 6 because I need to be out on the water asap. I made the mistake of going to the lake without anything more than a ski boat and now I'm in "I need a boat running tomorrow mode"
anyway heres my issue, the prop shaft of this inline Merc seems to be very low to me.
even with no LWP. (I am a fabricator, I can cone or make scoops in short time)
My question is the following:
is it worth running a jack plate on a inline pushing a vector ?
Im not too worried about modifying a plate or something for the clamps to hold onto but I am slightly concerned about the trim rams and their width on a plate.
Can anyone recommend a jack plate that can be used on this setup and then accept a v6 later ?
I have spent days looking, and I don't see any inlines on a jack plate, I cannot be the first one to want to do this.
My my experience it looks like I need to get this motor up some before I even launch this boat or it's never getting up on that pad, but I could be wrong.
Last vector I piloted had a 235 2.6gt on it and I was a kid.
i am kind of thinking it may be fun to set this guys up to see what she can do, I found a 2 ear bronze 26p inline prop, and a 20p laser in my shed to start playing. I mounted and sealed up my seat box mounts yesterday, replaced all rotted wires, re wired boat, replaced buss fuse panel with new style, fabricated a rear seat box storage space / mount, and got the trim, steering (single cable for now) all
in working order. Waiting on carb parts and I will be able get out there soon.Last edited by hst714; 07-04-2017 at 06:59 AM.

I have 5.5" cmc on my viper. Had to drill holes in it for bolts through the ram blocks and the lower holes. The motor hangs over .5" on either side. With the 20" motor and the Jack plate all the way up I'm still 4.5" below the pad.

Thank you,
i finished the interior parts last week, we built a aluminum front seat / storage and a rear seat box as well in case I want to put the kid back there at some point.
I serviced lower, and finished wiring (I think). Only thing left is to assemble the carbs and bring her out to get wet.
Plan on racing my 69 ironhead this weekend so the boat has been taking the back burner, until next week!Hope for the best, expect the worst...

And yes ! I don't know how it happened but all my "mentors" over the years have been invested in older stuff. I guess they influenced me a bit!
Hope for the best, expect the worst...

That boat will run mid 60's as it sits with a decent prop, so long as the motor is healthy. I wouldn't fool with a jack plate until you're ready for the V-6. In many cases a jack plate will make it slower (boy there's gonna be a howl over that statement once we start hearing about "what everybody knows")

When I had a inline 6 on my vector years ago I got rid of the stock trim and used the cmc power trim and tilt. It was a short shaft though so height wasnt a problem. It also had 6 inches of setback. If you are good at fabbing stuff I would think you could make a static jack plate for any motor height u want.
