"In Seattle in 1980." You know what year it is now, right? lol Yes Parker, I remember the posts regarding your quest for Black Max. His son was in the fine spirits business in the Pacific Northwest, was as far as I got, with no contact info. Pretty common name makes it hard to track down. Regarding the Triton 30', Model 308, being raced by George Johnson off the California coast in races, that was the unique & fast boat to own in the early 80's with the new Mercury Hi-Performance EFI Offshore motors of the day. BAMF. There were a few of them in the mix running well. In everything but the real, real rough stuff. If you remember, Al Stocker here on S & F, who retired from Cali in recent years, to The Villages, outside of Orlando, knew George, and helped rig & I believe raced the white Triton 30 with him, since he had it rigged with twin Johnson V-6's. Al goes by the handle "racer" here on the Scream. Maybe his brain can be picked a bit furthur, as to where he is, I don't know.

What you could do Parker, that would make things a tiny bit less stressful on your psyche, is to track down ANY 28 RABCO SportDeck O/B...and restore it to photographic memory. Just an idea.

This was George Johnsons 30' Triton 308 with twin Johnson 235's in 1982, racing the west coast offshore circuit. It broke the production class speed record at that time. A few adventurous offshore racers who wanted to up the game, bought them, as they were a bit faster, power for power, than the Shadow Cat 30 of the day, in the calm to medium rough water. He sold Black Max to buy and run this Triton.

A racer by the name of Pat Murphy, also helped George Johnson run & rig the Triton, (he was the driver & crewchief)...along with Al Stoker, who was with John's Custom Marine back then. Pat was racing MOD VP then too. Maybe track down Pat Murphy? (another common name) Patrick is retired and has a hobby shop & collects boats/motors in Long Beach. He's 72 years old. Al might have a way to get a hold of him, don't know.

Yes Parker, "Jazzino" on Offshore Only, was George Johnson's son. Go bring up that thread again, maybe he will get notice of it.

I saw a triton or something that looked like it when we first moved to Miami on the icw in Coral Gables it had old mercs on it. We lived at 90 Edgewater street across from Gable Estates. Didn't carlson also make a boat similar to the triton? Rick

The Triton was strictly a race boat. The Carlsons were sold as pleasure boats & were designed a bit differently.
