That number is the best impeller the brass one not the paper one they sell in the kits. If ya need a kit with gaskets and upper plastic housing this is the part number for that. 46-96148T 8. The kit comes with an impeller but get the one Eli said to get the one in the kit is paper and wont last or be as good as the Brass bushing 89984T 4..

ALSO!!!! when ya take out the impeller get a screw driver and slowly pry up the bottom plastic housing under the metel plate and gaskets. Theres a Gasket under there that can also tear!! I checked mine last week and it was torn. There is a gasket for that in the kit i provided the number for. There is an O ring you will see that ya pop out to take off and put on the new gasket. Easy peezy but most dont bother checking that one!! there is also a new O ring in the kit. every time you buy the kit save the stuff ya dont use like the little yellow gaskets there for when ya change the gear lube for the drain and vent plugs.

And BTW almost every and any merc dealer will have these part numbers in stock. They are used on so many merc motors. You shouldn't have to order them. Well i did say most even my little hole in the wall dealer has them. haha

How do you tell if it is genuine MERC on Ebay? Too many show up on the search but in the fine print it is some other maker.

It will say on the package. http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Mercury-Water...9YCPxm&vxp=mtr Also verify what Buzzin said about the water tube. Thats easy to tell. if you gearcase is off just measure across the tube. :]

These two parts work for 1/2 inch water tube assy. If your not sure take off the gear case motor up in neutral. You can lay it on the ground a towl dont but it on the ground without a blanket or towel down you'll scratch it. Best thing to have is a couple of 2x4 or 2x6 screwed to the end of a bench. And rest the case in between them like a cradle. Click image for larger version.
