HELP.....Johnson V8...How do you know if it's a 4.0 Litre Block
There are no serial number stickers on the engines. The FREEZE PLUG #0433002...how else can I find out if it's a 4.0 Litre Block...???

part of the head gasket sticking out at the top by chance?
if it has finger port bosses its a 4.0 but that was later ones
3.6 had twin pack ignition ( but that could of changed)
I think a dealer can run the serial number

Pull a spark plug and look down the bore. Rotate the FW until you can see the piston edges. 3.6's used a flat top piston. 4.0's had a domed piston. You can see the dome start about 1/4" or so from the edge of the piston.
