On a side note I put top and bottom rings in and omitted the center ring. I did leak down tests with all 3 it was 93%, with top & middle it was 93%, top & bottom it was 93%, and with only the top ring it was 89%.

What do you figure with 3rings 97+%? Pistons in makes ex ports clean up a no.

With all 3 it was the same as just 2 in either position. The theory was the empty second ring groove would work as a accumulator to dampen the shock from ignition.

Sure, two is good then. You could always plug each port tight with cotton or something and work the ports. Then turn the block over and pull the plugs out and carefully clean. No don't do that.

Biggest problem is getting air/fuel in as the reed block is restricting...We used to thin the blocks and run the timing all the way up till we got blisters on piston eyebrow the back it off a couple of degrees. This was 1/4 runs.....

Running the timing up is running it up until you meet the limit of that particular batch of gas. Gas station gas varies from delivery to delivery. If you plan on doing this, either buy a LOT of gas and store it sealed or buy race gas or AV gas and keep it sealed. This is what the inline 6 racers did back in the day ... what the winners did.
Also, changing props or motor height can change the load on the engine enough to change the way it responds to a particular batch of gas. Running the timing up is the very last thing to do in set up.

It's not just for flow, it's for a clean signal and incoming tuning pulse which leaves and arrives without extra distortion equally or more important in my opinion. All those bolt heads don't help.

I figured I could use a v6 flywheel and mix parts. The engine is on a hydrostream viper, so it's fairly light. Don't care so much about lo end torque, I'm not building it to pull skiers. I figured when I pull it apart I'll go with hi domes, I'm going to try aces additive with premium gas, I've had good luck with 2.5's and 3 litres with 170+ psi compression, so hopefully I can leave some timing in it, worst case I'll blend some avgas into it.

How will you raise the compression to justify use of jacked up gas?

Or move the centreline of the crank some towards the rear of block and cut the block and case and line hone. Then adjust the ports. What the heck is the term for that?
