    Bristol 1974.
OMC finish first and second in the ON Formula One class.
Ceasare Scotti of Italy piloted his beautiful #7 Scotti Craft/Evinrude V6 2 liter cross-flow to the overall victory.
Peter Thorneywork, UK finished second in his Milesmaster Johnson V6 2 liter cross-flow.
Another great race for OMC engineering.

The picture is from 1975 so my guess is a 2 liter cross-flow.

    STEVERINO

I think you are right Steverino..The French says the picture is from 1975, but it must be from 1976 and yes its the first V6 CCC 2.448 liter cross/frow
In my world the picture is from Paris 1976 and one of the US entry's.

    Parker Enduro 1978

Fred Hauenstein/Ron Hill took the #9 Molinari/Evinrude V-6 CCC to the overall win.
Yes..there was a bad fire for the winner at one point during the race.

Hi Lars around the time of this race I remember many things were about to change this was the first time we had seen the new OZ class run both for Mercury and for Omc and the last race Bill Seebold drove a Molinari. Velden had gone from Omc back to Mercury I think this was the first race James Beard drove for Mercury in his new 3 pointer which nosedived in the rough water and maybe the last race he drove for Mercury he gave all his time to building offshore racing boats after this race.Omc had 2 new 2.3 Loopers for this race driven by Woods and McConnell. The new 2.5 triple ccc Omc had arrived for OZ class and Molinari and Hering were making plans to move from Mercury over to Omc for the next season.I know I was having a terrific time in this race until about halfway through when the bottom of my boat got punched through and sank and Alfis Burgess after the first race had to have the transom fixed for the next race so he had a good result in the end.

    Lars .... I rest my case.... v4 begat v6 begat v8

Meanwhile Merc transitioned from inline6 to small 2.0 2.4 v6 to large 3.4 v6 all with seperate parts and design. I am not saying that OMC didn't do well... but they didnt spend a fraction of what Merc did on either race or production engineering

I would agree with 1/2 your story. Without question Merc spent more Engineering time and money on racing than OMC. However I would disagree about the production engineering part. Ask Freddy, Rick or Bill Mayer, they worked at both.

    Bristol - Embassy GP 1977

Renato Molinari was on fire in his is new Evinrude V6 CCC and his in line 3 CC in this race. Renato was not only the overall winner in the OZ class #2 Molinari/Saffa/Evinrude V6 2.448 liter cross-flow.
He was also the winner in the OE class #165 Molinari/Evinrude CC.
Yes I was there racing OE and finished sixth in my Molinari/Volvo Penta/Konig
Well..it was OMC engines in the top four overall positions .

I wonder how much effort/money Merc spent on the OE class trying to beat the OMC fishing motor?
I woundnt have wanted to work on that team at Merc

Saying that OMC made some custom race engines but I dont think Merc ever did, anyone?
