Well..Charlie got involved in NASCAR many years after he closed down the OMC F1-V8 racing.
The F1-V8 started 1981 abd ended after the 1989 season.
"Strang was a very popular figure in both the marine and NASCAR industries and was National Commissioner for NASCAR from 1998-2008"

Lennart Ström in his red #3 UIM SE class Sjoberg/Evinrude 75.
Lennart was very successful with this Evinrude powered Sjoberg cat.
This is from the early eighties.

In the summer of 1987 Sture Sjoberg built Lennart Ström one of the first UIM Formula 3 - OE class tunnel boats with a safety cell.
This extra strong cockpit made the boat a bit heavier in the front.
Lennart raced the boat in Stockholm 1987 and later in the Paris 6 hour race in the beginning of October 1987.
As always the river Seine was very rough and a few hours in the race Lennart nose dived bad and destroyed the boat. Lennart was also hurt pretty bad..but as a strong viking he recovered fast.
A few pictures of Lennarts boat with race number 1.
The picture from the start in Paris Lennart was using #26 for the race.
(The Paris race organization always told us what racing number to use for that race only)

I always thought the playing field for those willing to develop safety cockpits should have been leveled by increasing the minimum weight limit for everybody.

Learn something new everyday. Never knew Evinrude offered a "flower power" engine.
From what I understand it was a 3 cylinder 15" shaft that was offered in 1970.
Dealers were limited to order only 1 in there stocking order.
